Opinion re: this Vantage V8, MT

You should at least put a deposit on the car until you can down there. You'll be kicking yourself if someone beats you to the punch on that car.

Set to look at the car on Wednesday, assuming the plans stay firm. Per the seller, no serious action from other parties on the car to this point. I'll post with any other developments and REALLY appreciate the insights and encouragement from the board on this. Now I reckon I'll have to tell my wife I'm looking at an Aston Martin ....... ;-)

I would jump on this car, one of the best-looking Vantages I have seen. I too came from air-cooled 911s; a 90 c2 hotrod and a stockish 97 c4s and have no regrets. Just like the 964 and 993 the Vantage feels special and has a ton of character. Like the last air-cooled cars, a few key mods really can transform the Vantage.

I decided to take the board's advice and put down a refundable deposit to hold the car through Wednesday. I knew I'd be disappointed if someone else beat me to the punch on the car. Also looking at a 1998 Porsche 911C2 and a 2015 GTS (and just sold a 1990 Carrera 2 to a LA buyer, which has funded this new car search), so the P-car pull is still strong! I was interested to see Superuser's post above - looks like another Porsche guy who caught the AM bug!

Smart move. Be curious to read your thoughts after driving it. I had a Porsche driving instructor drive my Vantage (first time he had been in one) and then he was considering buying one to replace his GT3 as a track car! He was blown away with everything about the car. He had no idea how full on sports car it was and the feeling of James Bond that you really sense driving any Aston Martin.

I had a 2012 911 I loved that car and treated with the utmost care. After I got the Aston I found that I like the Aston much better and traded the Porsche away.
When I had both members from our local pca group would always ask me to bring the Aston to the next event. As much as they all liked Porsche’s they were taken with the Vantage like I am. I’m sure you will like the Aston. Just be prepared for the attention it gets. When I would take the Porsche to Cars and Coffee it was just another car. When I take the Aston they have it displayed with the exotic cars.

Like others said, if you like the colors it's a nice car. Looks like it has all the right options. I'm not sure if you could get the diamond cut wheels without the sport pack so the only thing I would check is whether it has the sport pack. If they don't have the window sticker then you could get the build sheet from Aston. It has the plastic front splitter and rear diffuser and if you ever wanted the carbon fiber ones it would be pricey to upgrade them. The price is about what I paid for my car this time last year, but mine has the carbon fiber pieces as well as some other goodies. Mine had about 5K more miles as well with multiple owners.

Let me know what you think. I drove it last Saturday and almost made an offer. Held off due to newer GT consideration. Check out front passenger door edge. Not sure if there was repair done to that door or not. Otherwise, a pretty clean car and I think they have some negotiating room.

I went up to Charlotte last night and looked at a very nice 1998 Porsche 911C2S - widebody car. Silver/ boxer red, 80K, last year of the air cooled cars. Some paint work done, but otherwise a very nice, rather rare and absolutely lovely car.
Then I went up to see the Vantage and was just blown away. What a car! Colors are just to my taste. Got what I consider to be a pretty good deal - $1K off the asking price. Left my old Ford F150 truck with them and drove the Aston back home - about 325 miles straight through with no worries, other than a slightly nervous new owner. Car drives, handles, brakes and shifts just spectacularly. Fit and finish are amazing. The only thing I really had to get used to was I was revving the motor too high to start off in 1st. Engine is so smooth and quiet that it was hard to tell compared to my old Porsches and BMWs. I didn't want to stall her out, so I slipped the clutch a couple of times until I got the feel for it.
Now I gotta go get the truck. But I felt better leaving it on the lot than I did the Aston! Dealer was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Very accommodating and no pressure at all. They were fine with me leaving the truck and volunteered to pick me up at the airport if I had to fly in to gather up the truck. Cash deal, and they took my check without even a call to my bank. I assured them the check would be good tomorrow and that was just fine with them. I must have an honest face. :-)
Dimapower GT3: I looked the car over pretty well and didn't see any obvious flaws. Wish I had seen your heads-up on the passenger door but too late now.

Hey Mike,
Congratulations, I told you that you would love it:-)
I agree about the Vantages being too quite. First thing, pull the exhaust valve fuse, I think it's 22, this will make the car a bit louder at low rpm. Second, call Velocity AP and order some 200 cell CATs and a tune, it will transform the car! When you're driving your truck home swing by North ATL and come check out my Vantage to get an idea what a few key mods feel like.
Cheers,
Daryl
