V12 gearknob finish repair

i want to re polish the aluminium gearknob to remove scratches. It appears to have a clear coat over the aluminium. Does anyone know what it is and can it be easily re coated

There is a tread on pistonheads that a member refinished one.

I was thinking if I was to get my door arm rest or shift **** redone I would try Ceramic Coating like the headers, has very similar finish and it would last forever
