2008 Aston Martin Vantage

Hi guys, very excited to be joining the exclusive club of Aston Martin as I will be an owner of a 2008 AMV w/ 20K miles soon. One thing I noticed was that the car did not seem to have a manual in the glove box. I only got the chance to check it out for a short time so not sure if it could be sitting elsewhere?

Alternatively, does anyone have access to a PDF version or online link anywhere? That would be highly appreciated.

Second, I was wondering if there is Bluetooth for phone connection in the car? I noticed it had the phone buttons but pressing them didn’t do anything and being that the screen is absolutely tiny I am not sure how to make it work if there is in fact Bluetooth.

Third, the vehicle I am getting doesn’t have the pop up navigation. Initially I thought only the newer ones had those but I’ve seen some videos where 2008’s and older seem to have a slot on the centre dash for presumably the pop out navigation. Was this an option or something?

Finally, the vehicle inspection report showed that the tires would need to be replaced soon. And while I will be able to tell as soon as I see the car but I figured if someone knows I can start my research earlier in terms of what size tires do I need exactly. If I remember correctly from looking when I saw the car they were 235 and 275 but I may be wrong and I can’t remember if they were 19 or 18 as sites show both as OEM option. Also, if I am gonna order a set can I order a wider set for front and back for OEM rims without rubbing etc? If so, what’s the maximum size I can go?

Any further and other details and quirks or something that I should know? I will be taking delivery in a couple of days and having had many BMW’s in the recent past this is my first venture towards exotic vehicles ownership and I hope to move up deeper into the exotic world from here on. I purchased additional 2 year warranty for the peace of mind as well.

I may have other question as the time goes along but so far would greatly appreciate whatever help I can get. Thanks a ton for your time guys. I will share some pictures soon if anyone is interested.

Welcome Ksa! What great taste you have in cars

For the manual, I recommend the Aston Martin Owners app - available for both ios and android. This provides the owners manual for your car.

Not so sure on the bluetooth - obviously the manual will assist. I have a 2010 DB9, and so use a bovee for bluetooth streaming.

Navigation was an option indeed (and not something you would have used I bet).

Tyres, aside from the obvious information on the tyres and in the owners manual, there are a number of discussions on sizes, wheel options, spacers etc on this very forum that may help.

I do recommend you checkout redpants.lol for some videos and as a source of parts and components if you’re looking to do some maintenance or source the components for maintenance.

Quite exciting to become an AML owner, welcome to the club and enjoy that bloomin car

Vantage

Bluetooth was an option as well as navigation. I have an 07 and most do not like the nav. Your phone would be more useful. Congrats on ownership.

Thank you gents for the warm welcome. It is much appreciated. Also thank you for your suggestions on the app (which I have downloaded) and redpants. While I am not sure what the latter is right now, I will do some research on that.

The Bluetooth being an option makes sense for that year, but i figured if it has buttons that look like phones it must have it right? But the manual that I downloaded on phone via the app will be super helpful in that regard.

I have to say, I am quite excited for this and I haven’t been this excited for a vehicle in a long time. I’ve owned vehicles that have been more expensive than this one, however the sense of achievement I feel for some reason about owning an Aston Martin is honestly quite something else even though it might be older. Right at this minute, I am coming from a 2018 M2 that I got 4 weeks ago, however, before that I owned a brand new 2018 BMW 540xi for just over a year. In the past 4 years I have had 6 BMW’s of different kinds and prior to that a C63 AMG and C350. Lots of them have been nice cars but not that many gave me the excitement I feel right now in anticipation.

It’s hard to explain but I feel a sense of achievement that I have accomplished one of my goals but owning a super car that I have looked at for a long time and hopefully I can keep this one for at least 2 years. Going forwards my plan is to only have exotics of some kind and we will see how that goes.

If anyone is interested in a little thread I made over at the BMW section just chronicling my BMW experience over the past 4 years, it is located here. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...onwership.html

Thanks once again and I really look forward to learning so much more about this wonderful machines. Even though I am a little afraid about the realiability aspect in general (being that it is old and never having owned something that old), the fact that it is an exotic doesn’t help but purchasing extended warranty that’s relatively comprehensible (doesn’t cover emissions and things like window switches, airbags, regulators and some other things but covers all main things like engine, suspension, etc} has given me a lot of peace fo mind. If you experienced guys thing I should get the full warranty and include the parts it doesn’t (in case they are more prone to failure or something) then please let me know as I think I still have time to include that maybe. I will attach the brochure below in regards to what is covered under the PLUS category that I took and if it misses something that is more so prone or super expensive to repair/fix then I will enquire about moving into the ELITE category.

Thanks very much!

i did not go with any warranty, figured i would keep her maintained, not abuse the car (i drive carefully and only care about that sound (oh the sound) under acceleration when the roads are dry, visibility is great and other cars are not around.

I’ve also been lucky enough to have a solid indy mechanic who completes the 2 year services in the spring as well as any other items I bring up. This year will be a change of battery (i got the braille and lightweight aluminium kit from redpants) and I know that brings some procedures around windows, seats and cyclinder firing learning. All straight forward items, with a really impressive knowledge base to pull from being this forum and it’s members. The past 3 years of hovering this forum have been hugely educational for me, as well as getting to learn of some of the characters that frequent it - all passionate AML peeps.

I also own a 2015 F31, 328ix and absolutely love the car. I love wagons (estates ahem) and have had several volvos as well as a 2005 E500 Wagon which is an impressive car. The F31 is definitively my favourite, from a handling and performance and practicality perspective.

I would love an M2

I digress, back to your point however - there’s just something special about AML

An Aston Martin is just so special... Coming from MB, BMW, Porsche there is something about limited hand built production... They are stunning to look at and rather easy to work on.

I have yet to make a leap to a Ferrari, but i think my next on the bucket list is a McLaren

Aston Chap... I too also love wagons... been in BMW 5 series and MB C and E Class...My Volvo 2015.5 V60 RD is my current daily beater car and I really drive it hard.... I am eyeing getting into a used E63 AMG wagon... ( may have popped up on BAT lately...) but waiting for my Volvo to turn 100K...( should be about 6 months...)

Regarding the owners manual make sure you check behind the seats as well. There is a little pocket and I know some people keep their owners manual in that spot.

Thanks once again for the all the wonderful comments and suggestions guys. I am sure I will have a great time here and learn a lot. So all the paperwork has been finalized and I am set to take delivery of the car tomorrow evening and I am so damn excited. I will be sure to share pictures with everyone on here. I have some already on my phone, but I'd like to share the ones I take AFTER I actually own the car! haha.

Welcome and congrats, as for the tires they were standard 19" 235 and 275 in 2008 but later upgraded to 245 and 285 which is what I am running on my 2009 V8 Vantage. With changing the tire size your speedo will be a little off but not that bad, here are the exact size that I am running and what Aston Martin put on their newer V8 Vantage

245/40ZR19
285/35ZR19

Also the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are the most liked on this forum but I decided to try the Continental ExtremContact Sport which is also a great tire as I don't track my car. I wouldn't go any wider than those size on OEM wheels... If you have more questions let me know

Congratulations and welcome to the club! One quick thing -- the manual may be in the trunk/boot... it's actually a bit too large to fit in the tiny glove box of our cars.

Behind the seats there's an area that lifts up; could be in there.

Are you planning to bring it by your local AM dealer? They can print out the build sheet for your car and it's worth becoming friendly with them. Have you looked at the car while on a lift? Perhaps the dealer could put it on one for you?

Congratulations on the new car. They are very well built and not that hard to work on. Check out Redpants.lol
Rich is very knowledgeable about these cars and his diy videos are very helpful. You can email Aston Martin in England and the will send you a copy of the window sticker for your car. All they need is the vin number and proof of ownership.

Are you referring to the little pocket behind the seats themselves? If so, I checked and nothing there. There is nothing in the boot either, although I didn’t try lifting the bottom of the boot yet.

Thank you. I will shop for those tire sizes. I have had PSS on my C63 AMG before and they were great. The Conti’s were just on my M2 and I found them to be a bit loud. I am not too concerned quite yet as I’d like to run the current tires Potenza’s down as much as possible before worrying about the switch.

I didn’t see this area in the quick few minutes I looked. Just a little slit behind the seat itself if that’s what you’re referring to? I wasn’t planning to bring it by the dealer unless I have to for some reason. Even then will make every attempt to find a better independent shop first. Let’s just hope that the need never arises other than the oil change etc. I didn’t look at it on a lift either but with my absolutely minimal technical knowledge, I doubt I’d understand anything anyway,.

I am not quite sure what Redpants is, but I will google it. I have seen it mentioned a few times on here already. Thank you for the suggestion about the email. Please do share the email if you have it but otherwise I will try to Google it as well.

As a side note, funny thing I found on the badge under the hood, the engineer who made my car his name is Dean Britain. Found it that my car came from Britain and was made by a Mr. Britain, haha. Maybe I am just being silly. Lol.

Thanks to everyone that commented and helped so far, it has been great. Now to the BEST part of it all as I took delivery a couple of hours ago. Some pictures!
