Thanks to Aston Installations, James Hawkes-Reed and Lenny Knox for their incredible Plug and Play invention, I could easily install CarPlay in my 2015 Aston Martin DB9. I can still use my factory reverse camera and factory Nav (Garmin).
I never took out any panel before and this is the first time. James and Lenny walked me thru the process step by step and have this feature up and running in no time at all.
I highly recommend to get this feature added to your Aston Martin today. Contact Rich at RedPants.
Here are some pics with CarPlay. I will post pics with Android Auto as soon as I can get hold of an Android Phone.

Touch screen?

So how does this work? I thought the main idea CarPlay, etc. was that it replaced the need to access the smart phone screen... seems like all you are doing is mirroring your screen.
I would think the best way to accomplish this works be to upgrade factory screen to higher definition with touch. I updated an older netbook laptop with a touch screen overlay for about $100 several years ago.
Seems like you are getting the look od CarPlay without the ease of use.

Nope. It is not screen mirroring which was available for the last 2 years. This is actual CarPlay. If not I wouldn't have got it.
Upgrade factory screen ? I would love to do that. Can you post pic of your screen and how you did that.
Check out videos of Aston Installations.

Congrats buddy, i know you wanted this for a long time.
If Cuddapah purchased this and installed it on his car, then it definitely is well worth doing. Might be something I tackle sometime

Now it makes more sense with the little controller gizmo.
There's a YouTube video where a shop in NYC installed a new screen in the same location of the original flip up. It just swaps the screens for a better one.
Seems like a nice upgrade for those that use the flip up screen. Something to consider. For now I use Alexa with a bovee for my streaming with voice commands and a rear view mirror video screen for my front and rear cameras.
Met James at Rich's tech day in Tampa last year... He and Lenny do great work and James helped me on some installation issues with my set up. Sounds like a win

Do you have to choose between Apple CarPlay or Android or is it the same setup with only a different cable?
You connect whatever cable your phone uses to AI's USB port. The unit recognizes what is connected and fires up CarPlay/Android Auto. I tested with iOS 10.3.4, upcoming iOS 13 (Developer Beta) with new CarPlay dashboard feature and latest and greatest version of Android Auto. Works great!
Great! I just received my CarPlay kit from Richard and will be installing soon. Any chance you documented your installation? Also, pics of where you mounted the control and button? Thanks!
Congrats! I didn't document, but I can do it over and over again :-) In fact, after initial installation I took it off and did it again. Very easy. If DB9, please start from Sub. Take pics at every step before removing any panel. I haven't mounted the controller and rocker switch yet. I want to play with the controller for a few days by placing it in different places and find its sweet home.

Mine will be in a V8VR with MT. I did not order front or rear cameras, so a lot of the connections in the looms will not be used. I’m figuring what plugs into where before tackling installation.
I don't have cams either (yet). Assuming your CarPlay kit came with all connectors connected, I might be able to help. I will PM you.

You connect your phone, the system auto-selects CarPlay or Android Auto automatically. The modules that Aston Installations have designed handle both.

Thanks for the info, I am located in EU, so might be worth a visit to drive to the UK and be back before Brexit :-)
