Hi everyone, my 2005 DB9 with about 7500 miles on the clock was making a weird noise yesterday as I drove through the neighborhood. It almost sound like a small bird was chirping as we rode along. My passenger got out and listened to my each of my wheels as I rolled and he said he felt that noise was coming from my driver side rear and thought I may have a sticking/dragging caliper. I ensured the emergency brake was disengaged.

Since I don't like putting my car into the shop unless absolutely necessary, I thought I'd check here since I haven't done brake work on this car yet. If I want to inspect my calipers on that wheel for proper function and determine if it's sticking, what's the procedure for this?

 

You may have a small rock stuck in or around your pad or caliper. I had it happen myself. I've heard of it happening to others too. It's worth a good self inspection.

 

It's the handbrake pads, changes with temperature, and sometimes when turning. Hold the button in and lift-up when driving to deglaze pads. Lots of stuff about it years back.

 

Do you recommend removing the caliper to do this? I have no problem taking things apart to better understand the car, I'm just pretty new to our brakes.

I assume just a light pull on the hand brake so as not to lock the wheels? What speed do we recommend doing this?

 

Whatever speed your comfortable with. Open parking lot 20-25mph. You can also slacken off the cable on the offensive side if your not comfortable with the drive n pull.

 

Try a hard braking application while going in reverse; if you have picked up a stone or other foreign object, you may be able to dislodge it.
