Great tutorial SD and you are absolutely correct in the varying quality of PPF installers.

Also keep in mind of how you will will be using your vehicle in picking a product. If you tend to drive at spirited speeds on marginal roads you could opt for a 10 mm thickness film on the front and 8 mm on the rest. I drive like an old lady but my long sandy driveway was the driving force in utilizing a thicker film.

Its imperative that you ask these questions before the install to avoid any disappointments after the install.

Hedged: I have three Stihl backpack blowers but use the Stihl BR 800 C-E to dry the vehicles. This thing is an absolute beast and will dry your Aston in a minute of two.

Depends how much they charge, but in general yes on an exotic or sports car. No for a car with tires with plenty of side wall more utility wheel design. I had a Jaguar XE that tire/rim insurance paid for itself the first year. My wife's Volvo, never used the policy once.

Where are you located???? But, really depends on dealer and who they have do the work. The dealer itself will not do the work it will be someone from outside.

Is a paint correction being done before the application to get the paint as perfect as possible. Will the dealer warranty the PPF work? ie.... edges lifted, silvering during install, how is the PPF being installed ---- Pre cut patterns that wrap edges? (pre cut are not bad to get if done right and the edges are tucked in the right areas, I have found on the Astons that tucking wheel well areas dont do well and tend to lift over time, I prefer those to be pre cut and matched to the edge) Issues with installers hand cutting can if the installer is not good cut the paint in areas and you will never know until the PPF is removed.

Also how are you going to wash the vehicle? Hand wash weekly or so and blow dry? Will you have installed a ceramic coating on the PPF? to help it last.

If you are hand washing then I suggest Front end PPF, with rockers, and with behind rear wheels. A 3" strip or larger on the roof is not bad to have either. Then Ceramic coat with a GOOOODD coating the whole car, wheels barrels, and trim. Then take care of it. The thousands you would save can be used for a light polish a few years down the road and reapplication of the ceramic coating. Just a whole lot of options. Also depends on financially how you are set too. Sometimes its just easier to do it all up front and be done for years.

Your pricing might help for us to give advice too.

was planning on getting some PPF on front of car, but thought it prudent to have the bumper, at least, painted first. with the paint and PPF it would have been over $5000. so on second thought, i think i can live AND get a good night's sleep even with the inevitable stone chips.

in fact, with a little math and knowledge of my average ROI (Return On Investment) over the past 20 years, i can safely say that if i wait a few years that $5000 i'm saving now, can serve as an effective endowment for what will amount to a free repaint and PPF refresh every five years for the rest of my life. ...including capital gains tax on the ROI and inflation.

Well PPF on new re paints is not a good idea anyway. While it can be done, whenever its taken off eventually it will peel the paint in areas most likely. So go for a good ceramic coating ie....22PLE or Kamikazee . While there are many many many ceramic coatings on the market, these two are hands down the best and worth the money spent. Most do not use true silica dioxide in any amounts worth mentioning. Some use the 1% required for industry to label a Ceramic coating. The two I mentioned use a high percentage and use both powdered and liquid silica dioxide in formulas. Anyway hope that helps

The key is finding a quality installer with lots of experience. I had to travel 90 miles to find an installer that I trusted with the car and had confidence that the final product would be perfect. The installers workshop had several brand new vehicles including Rolls-Royce, Bentley, McLaren, Ferrari, MB etc.

where did you get it done?

Do you have to wait the ceramic coating to cure if doing two coats? I applied a coat of Gtechniq EXO v4 Ultra Durable Coating yesterday and wouldn't mind doing the 2nd coat today if possible. I have it scheduled for tomorrow, but will have to do the car in between conference calls. I did our 2nd sets of wheels with two coats, but there was no rush on them do to being the off season wheel sets.
