Handbrake Caliper is tight but loose

2013 V8 Vantage

So, the oddest thing. I've ensured the two mounting bolts are tight on my handbrake caliper, yet the caliper is somewhat loose.

Anyone have any idea why this could be?

Normal. They are floating bushings on guide pins as most calipers on ordinary cars. If the pads are backed off they move even more.

Thanks for the reply. Very odd then -- when I press the brake pedal lightly I hear a little bit of a chirping sound from the rear brakes and that was the first anomaly I spotted. Trying to figure out why this would be the case.

The noise is probably the pads moving in the service caliper. Braking will not affect the handbrake caliper at all. Try removing the service brake pads, cleaning them and use copper grease/ pad lubricant on the edges of the pads where they slide between the caliper, the pins and the spring where it presses on the pads. Movement in those areas when you apply the service brake if dry can cause a squeak.

i recently replaced all the brake pads (not the parking brake pads) on my 2007 vantage and when they began squealing after about 50 miles, i removed all the pads (NOT the parking brake pads) and applied a copper based grease in two places. i applied some on BOTH sides of the clip-on brake pad backing plates. one side of which contacts the back of the brake pad itself and the other the caliper pistons. that fixed it.

For anyone searching, I checked today and this wasn't the case with my DB9. 2005 DB9 handbrake caliper is solid even with the parking brake off.
