100% synthetic lubricant for all mechanical...
Motul 300LS is GL5-rated and contains a sulfur/phosphorus extreme pressure additive over and above a GL-4 oil. The GL-5 additive is necessary for high-offset hypoid differential gears but has been shown to cause yellow metal erosion and premature manual transmission synchromesh ring wear. To avoid this I use Amsoil's 75W-90 Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube. It is a straight GL-4 oil with no GL-5 extreme pressure additive to harm our synchro rings. It also contains a friction modifier necessary for limited slip differentials. Why use a lubricant which may damage our transaxles? Redline and Liqui-Moly also have good GL-4 oils.
i use the exact motul transaxle lube that redpants used in his excellent DIY video on the subject. IIRC there are or were several fully synthetic transaxle lubes available. can't remember off the top of my head if that's the one or not. the packaging is similar on all of them. in any case, at a few thousand miles a year, i expect to be long dead before any damage will be done with just about anything i throw in there. such is one of the rare and advantageous perquisites of growing old.
