ASM Gurus

was out for a nice spirited drive this morning and thought about how my ASM1 downshifts automatically... does this cause premature clutch wear? in my manuals, i never downshift thru gears...

Is it better to pull the paddles back to neutral and brake?

I_gotta_Vantage is infamous around these parts
No, but there is no need to do that.... I drive in D 90% of the time and the downshift is programmed to hold the gear less. Hanging those RPM’s will shorten the clutch... Driving in sport my wear a little more but its the trade off on HP’s and RPM’s... the high wind down is normal...

Best way to tell if your clutch plate is worn - goto 1st gear and creep up a hill.. let it roll back and then repeat the climb... that plate should catch and pull the car up the hill with ease.... that jerk is a good sign... if youre hitting high rpm’s to climb then its wearing down...
