200 cell or cat delete options V8 Vantage

I'm looking to try it and see what it sounds like but the new prices are crazy that I've found. If anybody has an old set they are thinking about selling please let me know. I have a 2010 V8 Vantage. I want to leave the stock muffler and see how it sounds with the high flows or the deletes. If its too loud and I tick off all my neighbors I'm just going to sell them again. LOL

Thanks.

Interesting that you'd remove or replace the cats before the muffler. Is there a reason for that? I would have thought a new muffler would be the first step?

My new-to-me 2007 V8 Vantage apparently has 200 cell cats and an aftermarket Quicksilver muffler and is too loud for me. I have a stock muffler coming in and was curious how 200 cell cats would sound with a stock muffler??

As is, the sound (besides being bloody loud) is very "crackling" like a race car decelerating (snap, crackle, pop!). Is that from the cats or from the QS muffler?

Does anybody here have experience with combinations of cats/mufflers and what affects sound the most? Maybe some sound clips??

On the 2010 it has the muffler that you can open and close with a valve. Not sure if the 07 has that? Anyway on mine with the fuse pulled its still too quiet. The cats make a HUGE difference in sound as they are really quiet down the car. I want to be able to have it loud when I want but be able to quiet it down with a remote switch for the exhaust which I already have. I have taken the cats out of a lot of my cars and its made a way bigger difference than the mufflers. If you are going to go back to original cats let me know and maybe I will buy your 200 cell cats. Id have to check if the cats from an 07 will fit a 2010.
Thanks.

Hmmm....interesting. So putting a stock muffler back on might not quiet me down as much as I was thinking.

I might need to pick up stock cats as well........argh.

(Can't wait for spring to find out!)

Ozzir...have you checked the FB group? Someone was selling a pair of 200 cell Velocity cats with 5k miles on them a few weeks ago.

I went throught the same dilemma , I have an 07 Vantage .
I eventually settled with a tune from velocity and the 200cell cats . It’s plenty loud without ticking off the neighbours and the tune does wonders for the car .

same here, with headers and 200cell cats it was too loud and harsh for me,
"SHOUT OUT " to Chris at Velocity for doing a custom remap with exhaust valves closed
sounds great now, and i still have the tune file with loud option to wake the dead if needed .lol

Thanks. Which FB group? I joined one of the AM owner groups but didn’t see any posts about 200 cell cats for sale. It seemed most of the owners were in UK on that site. Maybe there’s another one Im missing

If you dont like the "crackling" sound, I would recommend adding an X pipe to replace the mid section. Will get rid of crackling and make it sound a little more "exotic".

Probably a dumb question, but is there a way of knowing if a car you bought (used w/o history) has had a "tune" put on it?

I'm wondering now as since the PO (2 ago) spent good money on the cats and a titanium muffler, it seems likely that he probably spent money on getting a tune as well???

I've a bit of a past in muscle cars and I do like nice cars, but I've never gotten into the tuner scene!

Since there are only a handful of companies offering ECU remapping (e.g., Velocity AP and Fabspeed), I'd try contacting them with your VIN to see if you're "in the system." If the PO paid for a $$$$ Ti muffler, I'd be shocked if they didn't spend $ on a tune.

I had the VAP decats on my '11 Vantage with stock muffler and it had an acceptable and wonderful sound. Remote valve control is a must though. It got to be lot of sound on the highway. Being able to turn it on or off is really a must.

The pop on decel is a tune mod. I agree with those above that it had a tune done for this. With VAP headers, 200 cell cats and stock muffler, I only occasionally got any snaps or pops on pedal lift off or downshift. My tune Stuart @ VAP is making now will have enough snaps and pops to make a 12 year old smile.

The stock Aston mufler I ordered just arrived, so come spring I will be able to try out hi-flo cats with the stock can with ECU controlled bypass valves.

I ran into some people who've heard the car and are distraught that I should quiet it down. As they said, it cost a lot of money and effort to get it to sound like that, lol.

I might drive it a few days in the spring just to see if I get used to it. I found my Lotus unreasonably loud (no cat and Larini exhaust) when I bought it and now don't even notice the sound. AND....the cop that followed me when I brought it home DID NOT stop and ticket me. He just gave a whole lot of stink-eye.

All this is an excellent distraction from the messy world we live in! Live happy.
