In viewing Harry’s Garage on YouTube and his review of the DB11, he noted that the vents just aft of the front wheels which mitigate some of the aerodynamic lift on the front end are problematic. More specifically, how dirt and road debris will splash on the inside of the hood/bonnet and along the side of the vehicle.
My situation and question is this. Both of my homes have long driveways (1/3 of a mile), one is moss covered and littered with long pine needles and the other is sand. I’m not too concerned about the moss covered driveway but am super concerned about the sand one.
For those who own a DB11 and have to deal with sand, how much of an issue is having sand enter into the engine compartment, air intake, along the side of the car etc?
We drive ~5 mph to keep our vehicles as clean as possible but there is definitely dust and the sand itself. Thanking you in advance for your valued assistance.
I would place some protective film in the areas mostly involved and keep my hose handy to wash it off. Then there's the possibility of paving your driveway.
Thank you Aston502 for the response. I’m very reluctant to pave the driveway for a number of reasons. Firstly it looks quite beautiful as you wind through the Saw Palmettos, Live Oaks with its hanging moss, and a myriad of other trees and bushes. Secondly we walk the property daily with our Greyhounds and if we pave the driveway it will be a less enjoyable event with them potentially burning their paws during the warmer months.
I just have to accept the dust and choose an Aston accordingly. I will definitely PPF anything I end up buying.
@MAUMAU Attached are pictures of the wheel liner vents and the underside of the hood that gets dirty from the tires. The material on the underside of the hood is similar to a rigid felt. I don't think PPF will adhere to it since it is not a body panel. There is a rubber gasket that separates the wheel arches from the engine compartment so the dirt accumulates on the felt directly above the wheel vents not the entire engine compartment. When I get dirt on the felt, I can brush it off fairly easily. The DB11 is an awesome car. I would not worry about the sand from your driveway. It will become part of your cleaning routine when you wash the rest of your car. My has full paint correction, full PPF and ceramic coating.
Congratulations. I have owned two of the older model Vantages and drove the new Vantage for about a week when it first came out. You will have a blast with your new toy. Hopefully, it is at your home in Georgia instead of Maine so that you can enjoy it year round. I also travel back and forth from Georgia (Alpharetta) and Connecticut.
