Accessing Gas tank on DB9 Volante
Accessing Gas tank on DB9 Volante
Hi,
An update, if only so when I search to remember how to do this, I can find it here on 6Speed...
I admit that the instructions in the repair manual for accessing the top of the tank in the Volante had me discouraged as there was much rear seat removal. I just wanted to get to the access port, which as everyone else already realized is under the tonneau cover. I finally got "brave" enough to stop the top raising sequence mid act. I propped the tonneau cover up with a board. This allowed me to spray white lithium grease on the various hinge points, but more importantly remove the lid to the gas tank and replace the o-ring/seal (a longer story but I had removed it last year to syphon out old gas).
The access port gives plenty of visibility to the internal tank parts, but is obviously a tight fit. The o-ring is held in place with a 2 part metal lid and then covered with a plastic valence held in place with two sided foam tape.
When I was finished the top rewarded me with completing the operation and all appears normal. Filled the tank and unlike previously there is no longer the smell of gasoline if the tank has more than 1/2 tank of gas.
YMMV!
