Fuel Sender Unit

Hello,

I noticed the other day that my fuel gauge has been stuck just above the full line even after driving ~80 miles. I did notice that the miles remaining was decreasing. Went to fill up the tank and the gauge did not move (as expected) but the miles remaining did not increase. I'm thinking it must be a fuel sending unit. Has anybody replaced one on a DB9 or had similar issues? Thanks!

I have had this in other cars. Worth checking on the wiring diagram but it wouldn't shock me that full tank is 0 volts from the gauge. In other words if the wire breaks you have a full tank.

On my db9 I was able to through the trunk and pop the plastic cover off and access the tank lid so I could drain it. However to actually get into the tank would be exciting as you have to come through the behind the rear seats or from below if it is a coupe. Made me wish I had pulled it when I had the drivetrain out!

YMMV

I would drive it more than 80 miles on a full tank and see if it eventually comes down. It may just be a bad spot. Few years back someone claimed certain fuel additives may enhance contacts on sender? If it is a level sensor fault you will get a code P460 indicating level sensor not responding to fuel used. Fuel tank service is removal of tank. It maybe possible in car but definitely drain the tank and have good ventilation on a cool day.

Chevron Techron fuel additive is worth a try.

Thanks all. I just drove 250 miles and the fuel gauge did not move at all. I used the Chevron Techron fuel cleaner about 4k miles ago, I will try another bottle.

I tried a bottle of Chevron Techron and over the past 3 weeks was able to get about 150 miles on the car but the gauge is still stuck at full. Is the fuel sender unit easier to access on a Volante?

Fuel sender is fairly easy to replace. There is a thread on here for fuel pumps on a Volante. That may help you decide.

500 miles or so later the fuel gauge is working again. Fuel sender was either stuck or on its way out but happy that it started working again suddenly!

Keep driving and adding Techron, it's way easier than replacing parts. And a lot more fun.

Hey there know this is an old thread but having exact same issue. Suspect it's connector or sending unit.

Are you saying the access panel for the tank is accessible through trunk on the DB9/S? Can you detail how you get to it? Presume just pull the floor trim then is there a floor panel you need to remove?

Was there ever further resolution on the problem in this thread?

I suspect it is the fuel sending unit getting stuck but I did not end up replacing it as mine started working again.

I have a new OEM fuel sending unit so if you decide you need it and want to buy it message me.

Oh perfect thanks. I'm hoping mine starts working. Was going to check the connector if I can confirm I can access through the trunk before tearing the trunk apart. Also suspect that because dealer replaced my rear side marker when I had in for oil change this hear and figured if they were digging around in the trunk to do that they may have knocked something loose. Figured would run the gas down, refill, then disconnect the battery and reconnect and see if that does anything. I also put some seafoam in the tank to see if that loosens things up. If I need that sending unit I'll definitely buy the yours from you - much appreciated!

@AM4884 if you're seeing this can you confirm how to access the tank? Is it through the trunk?
