Hi,

I just ordered a Volvo Keyless entry transmitter part #30772198 from Riley Volvo in Connecticut. Their online price is only $78 + shipping. Seems like a good price and much lower then I could find for a new OEM key from anyone else.

 

In 2003 my senor projecr at Art Center was for Aston Martin. I designed a breif case and a bispoke timepiece key. That night Henrik Fisker came by to check out my project and really liked it but said the concept would cost too much and that AM used a Volvo key.
I was always thought that the Volvo key was not fitting for an Aston. I guess I was wrong, this is a great replacement.
Also met Syd Mead that night, it was pretty awesome.

 

I quite like the spinstate aftermarket key fob. It is miles better than the leather clad volvo one. Over time, the leather starts peeling off and it just feels and looks unbefitting to the AM brand.

 

What year and model is your Aston?

 

I have a 2013 Vantage. My understanding is that even though the keys changed around 2009 the internal electronics stayed the same. It will need a little surgery to remove the transponder and remote and re-install in another key.

5 min job to switch them out, it's just the board needed from the new remote. The transponder is only in the ECU (emotion control unit) and the Volvo remote does not have one. I would assemble as many keys (ECU's) as possible and have them all programmed and you'll never have to do it again. You need a minimum of 2 keys to provide for programming.

I see what you mean, I open the volvo key and the remote board was easy to remove. If I buy a used 2009 o r newer key, do I need a new transponder chip or can the AM dealer software reprogram the used transponder for my car? I only have one key so will need a dealer to use the AM software for programming.

 

Universal transponder in keys, it can be programmed easily over and over. It's the remote part due to its seed code needs inputted into the car.
