Vantage V8 Engine Noise, knocking - ticking

Hi there,
i am looking for some Vantage specialists over there
i've got a Vantage V8 S with pretty high mileage and since today, it making a strange noise that scares me off...
someone tried the car with me and after a pretty hard acceleration, a strange noise started to come from the engine... it looks like a knocking noise, like a bearing noise... which i hope is not..
but maybe some specialists over there can help me out!

please check the video and let me know if you've got some time to help me

the car just had a service from aston martin about 1500 miles ago.. and it does look like there's too much oil in it

Thanks for your help guys, if anyone know what it can be, help if more than welcome!!

thank you!!

That does NOT sound good. Rod bearing knock or something or other. You shouldn't drive the car or start the engine again until you get it into the shop to get it well looked at. Good luck

Pretty true, i also think that it is not good!

anyone can maybe see any other problem? Is it possible to be timing chain related? or hydraulic lifters? or you're more about engine bottom end

thanks

Could be any of the above, and further driving will increase the damage. If it was mine, I'd put it on my lift and take the motor out and tear it down.

It would be worth a conversation with the service advisor at your dealer/where you got the service done to see how they handle engine repairs. I suspect AM simply offers an engine swap and has no real mechanical ability. AM of Washington gets a couple of blown engines a year, and their solution is a complete engine swap.

Seems to be a common problem for high performance cars. The guy that did my block has a line of engines out of Nissan GTRs next to his door. He is the repair facility for the dealerships, they just take them out and deliver them to him. You want to find "that guy" for AM near you, if it exists...

And, this is another example of why you never let someone else drive your car. An overrev by someone who doesn't own the pedal can be very expensive... So sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the advise !
Have anyone ever experienced an overfilling of the engine oil from aston martin?

I mean, 1.5 liters of excessive oil is pretty bad for the engine. It can cause huge problems... and it is way worste having too much oil than a bit not enough of it!

Engine oil level check is very specific for the V8 Vantages. Check must be done a specific time after shutdown I believe. If not then the level shown on the dipstick is not accurate.

That engine noise sounds quite bad to me, I would say that it sounds like rod bearings. I hope you are lucky and it's not such a big issue.

Being a dry sump engine, excessive oil should not be such a big issue as on a wet sump engine, as far as I understand.

The biggest issue with excessive oil in a wet sump engine is the foaming effect when the crankshaft splashes in the oil. I could be totally wrong, of course.

Just a thought, could it be a bad pulley? That would be an easy and inexpensive fix.

Not sure that it could be a rod bearing. If you start cold first thing in the morning you will be able to discern more what it might be. If car was being abused, the oil pump drive is not keyed which is problematic, but likely not responsible for your issue, however if you do tear it down keying that drive is a good idea.

mattourcl,

A rod knock will occur with a frequency of twice the engine rpm. Unfortunately, that's what your noise sounds like. Time for a professional diagnosis. I hope it's something else, but I'm not optimistic.

sorry, does not sound good. Like others have said, I would remove the pan and see if there are any fragments in there. Also, when draining the oil collect a sample and send it for a Blackstone analysis, it could show something that might help. Good luck!
