P0442 code

When starting out for vacation, as soon as I started the car, I got a CEL and a P0442 Evap small leak detected code. I got a fresh tank of gas, and tightened the gas cap. I cleared the code, and restarted the car, and the code came back. I went through various drive cycles, and can't get the code to clear. Any other suggestions to try? I can't get into my mechanic until the 21 September, and I need to get the car inspected. It wont pass with an active CEL.

Maybe a leaking fuel filler cap.

Do you have a Foxwell? I had a similar issue and 1. Autozone uses the Foxwell and can tell you more (it DOES work with A.M. much to my surprise and they can clear it) and 2. as soon as I had that problem, I ordered the Foxwell, it was a misfire, lean bank issue but has not come back after clearing. The dealer at my annual service told me that the car needed to re-learn misfiring so there was no record of it (probably from the code being cleared at Autozone is my guess).

I have a Foxwell 510. I initially read the codes and got the P0442 code, and cleared it, only to have it return. I suspect either a gas cap or purge valve. The car is 14 yrs old - so probably time to replace the purge valve and gas cap. Neither are expensive from Scuderia. Just not sure where the valve is located - probably buried deep in the car. I have it schedule for Steel Wings 21 September.

Thank you. That appears to be for the 4.7L V8. I have the 6L V12, but I imagine that the locations are similar. I am going to have my mechanic do the work. I was just trying to understand the issue. Looking at it, it is likely either the fuel cap; purge valve; or carbon canister. Parts are that bad - maybe $350 from Scuderia. The labor will be probably 4 times that......
