Just bought a 2006 Vantage. 17k miles. Beautiful new condition. But, it has been sitting. So, first task: remove and replace all fluids. Power steering was first because a whine is emanating from somewhere near the pump when the wheels are turned. I don't know if it's the pump because I don't know what it should sound like (might be typical), but I figure new fluid can't hurt, and I saw a post somewhere that indicated new fluid can really help. So, got the recommended Pentosin 11F and went looking for the procedure to flush the system. I found various descriptions on how best to do this right here (the shop manual does not describe how). I didn't want to remove any hoses if I could help it (which is probably the best technique) so I decided to use the syringe technique. Here's what I did:
1. Sucked out as much fluid from reservoir as the syringe could get (turns out this is 200 ml, about) It was red.
2. Filled reservoir with 11F
3. Started car and turned wheels lock to lock
4. Sucked out fluid
5. Filled with 11F
Repeated steps 3. - 5. until the fluid was approximately the color of the 11F (green). This took 2.1 liters of 11F plus enough to fill the reservoir one last time.
I know this is not the Best way to flush the system, but it is a lot less messy and it saves all the OEM hose clamps.
Anyway, for those wanting a math challenge; what is the % of red fluid left in my system? I understand the whole system is 1.1 liters and I ran 2.1 liters of new 11F through 200 ml at a time before stopping.
Also, I came up with a sure fire method to keep the bonnet up if the struts are too weak (BTW, my boot struts won't hold up the lid at all and the bonnet struts hold for 10 minutes before the bonnet comes down on whatever is peering inside. A patent is pending but sales appear strong. MSRP is $595.

replace all the hood and trunk struts... very easy well worth it. Also may want to replace door struts
By my calculation, you're replaced about 63% of the fluid with 5 cycles. You'd have to do it 8 times to get 80% new fluid and 12 times to get to 90%. .

I removed 2100ml 180ml at a time or 11.6 cycles or about 90%. I’m ok with that.
The power steering system is pretty standard. I changed mine using the same method. Check out the power steering additive from International Lubricants.
