Kind help with Vantage. P1734 & Fault No Gear Change Possible

Hi everyone.

I’ve been experiencing some weird issues with my 2009 V8 Vantage with Sportshift I.

A week ago, the car suddenly indicated there was a gearbox fault, no gear change possible. The car went limp and eventually after shutting it off, the engine would not start.

I took it to a mechanic who determined the issue to be a software issue so he flushed the error and the car started fine. He also told me the clutch was very healthy.

Then after getting my car back I started to experience a weird issue occasionally. Sometimes when the car has only just been started and I accelerate and shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear, a red warning light will come on temporarily telling me “fault no gear change possible” and prevent me from shifting up or down. The car then goes into neutral but quickly resets itself back to gear normally.

I’ve noticed that this mostly happens when the car has just been started and only during 1st to 2nd gear.

I’ve done clutch relearns every time I start the car.

I took it in to another mechanic who was able to identify an error code P1734 but who is unable to tell what is happening and why I get this issue.

can any kind soul please help out.

has anyone experienced this?

Looks like error P1734 means suck in gear, unable to shift.

It was fuse 46, a small 5 amper in the CEM box. I went through the entire wiring diagram in the shop manual looking for fuses connected to the battery switch or battery disconnect module. On page 765 I found this guy:

It was one of about 15 fuses and 3 relays I checked, and it happened to be the 2nd to last one. Once I replaced it, almost everything is working again. The dash is back, the climate control is responding, music is playing, the roof is trying to respond but is pissed that half the car is apart, and most importantly: the ASM is shifting!

The only thing left to chase down is to figure out why the infotainment screen isn't popping up. It's attempted to pop up maybe twice in the entire time I've had the car, so I'll take any leads on why that may be, but I'm guessing it'll be a similar process to diagnose.
