V8V manual fuel vapor pump
V8V manual fuel vapor pump
Hi,
The other day after parking the car in the garage, turning it off, etc. following a 25 or so mile drive, I noticed a noise that sounded a bit like a neighbor using an electric hedge trimmer. I didn't think anything of it, since I thought it was the neighbor, and went into the house. I realized I'd left my phone in the car and returned to the garage. This was less than a minute later and I realized the sound was coming from behind the driver side rear wheel. It stopped after few seconds with a sound of releasing pressure (think a muffled opening of a pringles can). I've not noticed this sound before.
A search on pumps in that area led me to the pump for the exhaust valving (I've not pulled fuse 22 or 15 or whatever it is in my car), which from reading, is on the other side. The only other mention of a pump is the fuel vapor pump which I believe is in the area I mention.
I turned the car ignition back on and after the initial whirring, etc, the only noise was the cooling fans. Starting the car, letting it run for a bit, then switching it off resulted in complete silence.
Is this normal behavior or an indication of something starting to go wrong?
Thanks

From what you are describing it is a EVAP Test that the car is running, I believe that there are 2 of these test a short test and a long test. Over the past 5 yrs of owning my 09 Vantage i have heard both, it is completely normal and as long as the test pass you will not have a check engine light on next start up, at least that is my understanding.
