Question V8V ASMII Unexpected Behavior at Low Speed

Hello all,

I recently acquired a 2013 V8 Vantage (Sportshift II) with 18k miles on the original clutch and have noticed an interesting behavior in first gear and reverse. This is my first Aston and my first automated manual so I am not exactly sure what to expect, but I understand that this is approximately the mileage at which a clutch replacement is required.

When gently applying the accelerator pedal between 1-2k RPM (~5-10 MPH) in first or reverse gear, I occasionally see the revs jump up about 250-500 RPM for a split second without equivalent movement of the wheels. I would say this happens about 50% of the time. When driving between 5-10 MPH the car’s movement isn’t always smooth and predictable; it can lurch back and forth ever so slightly. Other than this issue, the car seems to be driving smoothly and shifting quickly. I don’t see this issue in higher gears.

I am planning to take the car to the dealership for a clutch wear statistic reading, but wanted to check here if anyone has experienced this before I do so. Is this expected behavior for the car at this speed, symptoms of a failing clutch, or some other problem?

Thanks in advance,
advntge

If you want to check the clutch put it in sport, go out on the highway and smash the pedal in 4th gear, if it spins then you need a clutch.

I'm not a SS user so I'm not real familiar with the clutch learn, just know there is one and somebody will probably mention it if you haven't done the learn.

ASM I Guide

Don't know if this 2011 document will be of any help to you, but it does have some interesting information about the features for an ASM I vehicle...some items may apply to ASM II vehicles?
