Question Too many miles on this V12VS? Any thoughts?

Hi everyone,

Excited to join this forum as I'm narrowing down my search for the next car. It has come down to three: Evora 400, AMG GTC/S and the V12 Vantage. I know they're very different, but here we are. V12 vantage is on the top right now but also the only one I haven't driven.

All to say this example has come up: V12 Vantage. High miles but I absolutely love the color combo and it's a manual (although I'm not stuck on having a manual). Prices still seem high. Can't decide if they'll come down due to all cars coming down and high gas prices, or if they'll go up due to no more v12s!

Would love to hear your thoughts. Would obviously get it inspected for clutch life, brakes, etc. Doesn't look like it comes with the accessories

Nice car but sorry that interior color is not for me... The good thing is that car has been driven and enjoy I am sure of it, if you plan to drive it and enjoy it also then could be a good buy but if you plan on keeping it in your garage for price to increase I would say pass

I love the interior color and wish mine was the same. My only caution with a lighter color is the reflection on the windshield which may be distracting to some.

I would definitely try to negotiate (assuming vehicle passes a thorough PPI with a qualified tech with AMDS), but prices for the V12, in Manual no less, will still get top dollar regardless of current gas prices.

Regardless of 12 or 8 a ppi is cheap to me when spending 100k. See the car and test the easy things like door, hatch and hood struts hold open correctly. It has a cracked waterfall. That is a 1000.00 part from scuderia or 2800 from a dealer. Little things that may or may not drive you crazy. You want to enjoy, so just be sure you know what it comes with and are you ok cleaning up issues that might bother you. Very personal decision. Best wishes!

struts can be replaced for less than 200 dollars. why even inspect them at all when talking between 100,000 and 200,000?

IMO, things that a PPI should include cost so much and are so intrusive that an owner would never agree to having it done. best to simply drive it for as long as the owner will allow. maybe even offer a few hundred to rent the car for a day would be my advice. buying a car sight-unseen is always a gamble. you are counting on a PO with good character. how often does that happen? people always overestimate the value of their possessions IME.

then again, i guess i'm a hypocrite. i haven't followed my own advice on two of the last three sports cars i've purchased in the past two years.

I had owned a 2012 V12 Vantage for seven years. Same exterior color as this one...in fact, when I first saw this on Auto-Trader, I thought it was my previous car.
I wouldn't let the mileage bother me. These (the 2011 and 2012 V12's) are rare cars. Less than 200 V12 Vantages made in 2012! Prices have jumped dramatically over the last couple of years (yes, I know all used cars are up).
I had sold mine for $82K in late 2020 with 55K on the odometer...lower mileage ones were going for $110K, now close to $150K as you can see on Auto-Trader.
Great car, lots of fun.
Check it out thoroughly.
Thanks,
JH

Good selection of cars you are deciding on. I would not exclude V8 Vantage as well. I use to own the Evora and loved it. Would like to get another one.

My thought was the buyer would pay for the PPI, I would not expect the seller to incur that cost. Anyway, just my two cents if you don't feel you would know the car enough to evaluate its needs on your own.

best of luck in your search.

I have done "I'll pay for PPI and if I buy the car we subtract the cost or half the cost of the PPI". Seems quite fair. Especially if I cannot see the car in person.

That is alot of miles, but you would be buying a driver's car. Not something you're expecting to appreciate over the short-term, something to enjoy.

At $110kish, that's well below the absolute bottom of the market for a V12 manual due to the mileage but I don’t imagine manual V12s are coming down. Drive, enjoy. A PPI would take care of any questions as already said, and if it's not the one; it's not the one.

Random, but here's one on Bringatrailer currently.

1 day to go.
