Looking for Advice re: 200 Cell Cats
I own an 07 V8 Vantage with a manual transmission that I purchased last autumn. The previous owner installed Harrison Signature 200 cell cats, and I'd like to hear the experience that others have had. The car is incredibly loud with these cats, to the point of being overbearing and droning on the highway. The exhaust also has a distinct raspy tone to it. To help combat the raspy tone, I purchased and installed a VAP mid section, with their x-pipe. The tone didn't change much, if any. Last weekend I reinstalled the stock cats, and even with fuse 22 pulled, the exhaust is so quiet it almost disappears from the aural spectrum in the car, and out. Are the Harrison Signature cats just that much louder and raspier than other options, or is that the norm with 200 cell cats on these cars? I'd like to find a middle ground on volume, and remove the raspy tone entirely.
I have Top Gear 200 cell cats and yes, the car is loud. I was looking for a louder sound from stock, but this is a bit louder than I thought it would be. It’s probably at the limit of what I can tolerate. I am working on my X pipe to see if I can get a little higher pitch sound. I doubt it will do much but it’s a cool project. I think that it’s just the nature of the mod, it’s loud-ish, but I do not have any drone though. Validation: when the wife rides with me, she doesn’t complain (much).
I had a similar issue that I posted about a few months ago. My 2015 Vantage GT arrived on the transporter with Cat delete pipes and a Quicksilver Supersport Plus “silencer”. It was obnoxiously loud (but fun!).
I wound up keeping the delete pipes but changing the silencer/muffler to a quieter version (Quicksilver Sport) and that is about perfect. Not obnoxious but not stock either.
I assume you still have the stock muffler?

@surfin146 - I do indeed still have the stock muffler installed, with fuse 22 pulled. I may eventually pursue the idea of valves closed all of the time via a tune, and install a remote opener for those times I want a bit more volume.
I have a manual '15 GT with VAP headers, x pipe, high flow cats, and tune, but with a stock exhaust. Velocity mapped the "valves open at all times" and more aggressive throttle map to the Sport button, so when you turn it on, the default is "valves closed at all times" but it's easy to switch it out for some noise. I had the remote controlled switcher on the fuse for a while, but found that this is just easier. I also like having the "closed at all times" option for longer road trips with my wife... just a hint of additional noise from the header and cats even when you step on it.
Not stating anything out of the ordinary here, but Velocity is absolutely top notch in terms of their knowledge and execution. 100% recommended. If you can make the trek up there (I live just outside of Seattle), it's a nice drive and the guys are fantastic to work with. Judging by their social media, they're in the midst of a pretty extensive expansion so perhaps once it's up and running, it would be worth making the journey to get things done right from the source.
