Angry Fuel Door bah!

HELP! I'm stumped - the fuel door still will not pop open with the actuator. I replaced the actuator, and adjusted the door. Still not working. Do the cables stretch out? Its still not releasing the little latch that holds the fuel door down. Any ideas? Terrible design - Beyond frustrating.

That's possible? I'm not sure I saw a spring though, where is that? What did you to to remedy it?

Cables get corrosion in the middle usually. Since you did the actuator your familiar with cable attachment so the other end clips into the holder. So just pull on the cable to release it. Hang the cable and apply lube over time until it works thru. If its knackered, buy a new cable.

The "spring" doesn't look like a typical coil spring. It's actually a piece of "spring steel" that acts as the "push" for the fuel door.

Take a look at Redpants for solutions ... You can carefully remove the spring and hinge to adjust the spring steel outward for more push.

Also make sure the fuel door isn't hitting the edge of the car body. They can get out of alignment

I recently (a week ago) went through a fuel door issue. I followed the Redpants video and lubed everything and made sure the edge of the pin was smooth as well as the latch on the fuel door.

The earlier comment from "Import". about using a credit card is very sound and should work provided the cable pulls back far enough.

Thanks! Will check it out. I think at the moment I may have resolved the issue though. I ground down the latch that holds the lid down. Its working for now!

Happened on my Rapide. Dealer did a quick fix and it worked for a week or two. Their 2nd real attempt fixed it and it's been a couple of years of flawless function.

Could we possibly get a DIY for your fix?

One additional comment ..... Lubrication of the actuator and release pin is critical. It was a major part of my repair.

In that I don't drive the car that often or put gas in I've taken to opening the fuel door every 3-5 days just so it stays lubricated and moving.

My new to me Vantage was struggling to pop the door with the button press. The solenoid was working.

Interestingly, I found the mounting bolts to be loose, but the painted panel also was hitting the edge of the body when the bolts were tightened. Therefore it wouldn't work properly loose or tight. I tried bending the bracket for better clearance and broke it. It's a cheap cast aluminum I think. So don't do that, now I'm waiting for a new bracket and will have to re-adhere the body colored panel to the bracket with the proper alignment. I'm going to make sure I put loc-tite on the bracket mounting bolts too since they were so loose. My first real oops on my new car.

So wait, you said not to try to "adjust" the fuel door?

Yep, I eventually got the new stamped part as well. I initially ordered the replacement from Aston Martin Bits and they sent the below piece. It was still cast and I think for a DB9 (didn't fit). On the second try I got the new stamped part and thought "AML improved the design, must have learned some lessons".

Where did you order this from? Did it resolve the stuck lid issues?
