‘07 Vantage V8 - Intermittent Start up problem

Hello all,

I’ve owned my ‘07 Vantage V8 w/ about 35k miles for about 2-3 months and there’s an issue that I’ve been having ever since I got the car.

Upon cold start, the car fires right up with no issues. If you shut it off and start it within about 5-10 minutes, it will also start up but not as quickly. If the car sits somewhere between 20 mins - 3 hours, it takes a while to start it up but it eventually starts and it struggles for a bit but then idles fine.

Usually after this happens I smell fuel.

Has anyone else experienced this? Trying to figure out what it could be.

Definitely over fueling on warm or hot start. #1 thing is a leaking injector or injectors. Have the spark plugs removed to check condition. You can try an alternative injector cleaner in your fuel tank but it may take awhile to see results.

I greatly appreciate your feedback.

When I first got the car, I gathered all of the maintenance records so I could see what’s been done and what’s left to do based off the recommended maintenance schedule.

I haven’t gotten a chance to check the spark plugs yet but I did buy a set of OEM Aston plugs that I haven’t gotten a chance to install yet.

I also have a new PCV valve, thermostat, engine air filter, cabin air filters, and oil change kit

Sounds like you are on your way to get things done. Make sure you read the spark plugs upon removing. Meaning excessive fouled ones. It only takes 1 out of all 8 to have issues that your describing.

that’s fair! I will look into the things that you recommended and keep you updated.

I love the car, just embarrassing when she struggles to start.

I’ve been putting a lot of time and effort to get it where I want it aesthetically and it’s almost there so now it’s all about the mechanical things.

Nice, what's not too love about an incredible car? You're on your way to figure it out and it will be rewarding.

Could be the one way fuel pump check valve. Put a code reader on it. It should throw a code.
