Anyone dealt with a weak / low-range key fob transponder? It used to work completely fine, but now I have to position it by the driver side (LHD car) side view mirror, and even then it takes 1-4 clicks for it to finally lock or unlock. Anywhere farther than that and no cigar.
Pretty sure it's *not* a weak battery because I've now tried 3 different batteries all from different brands/packages!
Photo for attention and because that's the key skin kit I have on it, although that has nothing to do with the problem (the buttons click fine, the battery is just as secured, and it used to work fine for a long time with this setup)
My F80 BMW will unlock from about a quarter mile away with no obstructions. My V8V will unlock from about 20ft away, on a clear day, down hill, and only if the planets are aligned.
With new batteries in my '07's fob, the car will unlock only when I'm within about 10 ft. of it. It's definitely the shortest range fob of any car I've had.
I can see my '11 Virage from my office so can double check if I have forgotten to lock the car by walking to the window and pressing the fob button and making sure the indicators flash. I am on the 5th floor but the ceilings are double height so it is more like the 10th floor.
I have to be within about 10 feet with my Jag though and pretty much have to hump the rear bumper to use the keyless entry to get the rear hatch to open.
