Key fob out of juice
Key fob out of juice
Has anyone been out with their car and their key fob runs out of battery? Unless you have the physical key with you to open the door, I think you’re stuck right? Assuming you have the second physical key, Even when you open the door with the physical key there isn’t a key hole to start the car. Will the juiceless key fob still power the car?
The remote in a glass key car serves two functions. One is a simple radio transmitter to lock/arm/unlock the doors. This can be substituted with the metal key in the door. The second function is to act as a digital "key" to start the car. These two functions are completely independent. They are just housed in the same case. The starting key part does not require a battery. Its a passive RFID type thing. It gets energized by a reader built into the dock. In non-glass key cars, the RFID chip is in the plastic cover of the key and the reader is around the key barrel and the remote in that case is just for unlocking the doors.
Instead of changing the battery every year like some people recommend, I just carry the metal key as well.
