I am having engine faults & my mechanic says that the spark plug coils are going bad & need replacing (and to replace the spark plugs at the same time). This seems crazy at just under 4 years and 27k miles. Should the coils be covered under warranty for wearing out so soon (the dealer is getting the car this week)?

 

AM recommended maintenance is 4 years for spark plug replacement. Doubt plugs would be covered but perhaps other parts are.

 

I think I've heard in the past because the ignition system is integral to emissions control it is covered under the emissions warranty.

 

Federal emissions law and states differ, all you can do is check with your local dealer to see what's covered.

 

I had a coil/plug problem on my 2019 Vantage with the same AMG engine. 7000 miles, 3 1/2 years. You can find my *****fest on PH.

 

coils are a known issue on the 4L platform in MB world. So much so that MB has extended the warranty on them even after the power train warranty is expired.
