My 2011 V8 Vantage has the NAV screen needing the upgrade gear set kit. Instead of messing with the mediocre system to begin with, I'm thinking for one of the overlay mirrors with reverse cam like Wolfbox 900 or possibly one with also Apple Car Play ability if I can find a good and highly recommended system. These essentially slip over the existing mirror and are not obtrusive with features like monitoring (front and rear) while parked. I'd have it professionally installed.
I didn't use an overlay mirror but rather installed a brand new OEM look one. Have front and rear cams hooked up but you can also overlay carplay or screen mirroring.
it's been working great on my car for over 5 years
I ended up ordering a 4K Siecane mirror with apple car play and three channel with 170 degree rear camera and extra memory for less than $150 delivered. There was a ton of good reviews and I ordered directly from the manufacturer as I don't trust a third party is not doing some bait & switch or using a substandard clone. When I get the mirror in I can play with it before the install, so I chose snail mail so it will be two to three weeks and then I'll report feedback testing before having everything wired to the car.
I got the mirror shipped to me today. A nice box, all the components. I connected to a power source through a USB-C and fired it up. Without looking at instructions I was able to connect to my Apple CarPlay in about 3 minutes and it worked great, no issues. Using the forward cam the image was crystal clear on the 4K screen. I'm scheduled for Monday for the installation of the rear CAM and such. Will take pictures and report after the full install - so far I'm super impressed and shocked at the $125 price.
WELL done sir. Thanks for such a 'public service'.......curious as to how the tech did the hardwiring from the (car) supplied IPod connection to your late model (it looks to be a IPhone 13 or more recent?) cell phone. $320 for several hrs work - $$ well-spent!
The I-Pod connection is a cable that connects to the odd connection in the console storage area. I purchased the Jaguar part when I bought my first 2007 Aston Martin which had the old I-Phone large plug. So it was ages ago when I bought the part. The Jaguar part was a fraction of the cost of the Aston part. I then bought another cable that converts the old I-Phone connector to the new one for my I-Phone 11. I use the I-Pod option on the Radio for the music - the quality is impressive. Not sure how the tech hardwired the car, but there is no obvious changed other than the two wires to the mirror from the seam at the headliner. This shop (Mobile Installations in Brooklyn Park, MN) did my SLK32 upgrade with a Sony AX4000 Apple CarPlay - Reverse Cam moving some of the controls around to fit looking factory, so I figured they could do a good job on the Aston. To get the reverse to come up automatically they have to tap into the backup light - not sure how they did that, no wires can be seen. They also fixed my SLK55 which had the same Sony unit as my SLK32 when I bought the car but was lethargic. They upgraded the interface between the Sony and Mercedes electronics. Because the car is in storage insurance I just drove it back to storage till end of snow season. I'll take some downtime to learn the settings. In bright sunlight the mirror does get washed out, and the 'mirror' takes over the electronics - not sure if some settings can fix it. See below:
