2019 AM Vantage C1 service Oil question

I've been DIY my own service on my 2019 V8 Vantage. I know the C1 service is oil (and brake fluid change etc), recommended yearly or 10k miles.

However I have only put like 1400 miles on my vantage since I last did the oil a year ago, wondering if the yearly change is really needed for any technical reason.

Thanks!

My AM dealer told me that every service is coded C1 (have not had the car long enough to verify) - I have bought into the premise that engine oil needs to be changed 1/year due to moisture being introduced; my independent agrees-- KH

Interesting about the coding -- that's somewhat annoying. For anything more than an oil change I'm going to take it to an independent, but the C1 code lines up exactly to the date as the last oil service I did.

Either way good info about the oil - I'll change it on the year.

Oil is relatively cheap. While the mileage is low, the oil may have moisture especially if not driven enough to evaporate them out. To not do it to me is "penny wise and pound foolish."

Any modern oil monitor I've seen in just about any newer car is a time/mileage unit. 10,000 (or 12,000) miles/1 year. So, it's the event that is up first that signals a change. If you don't drive the car at all in a year, there will be an oil change reminder on at that point. Likewise, if you drive a car 10,000 miles in two months there should be a change reminder then too.

I would change it if it were mine. The moisture in the oil argument varies where you live. I spent years in the desert in Arizona and moisture in/on anything was non-existant. But, anywhere in a high humidity environment a little different story.

A local collector I know who had 5-6 AM's said he'd change oil at 4K regardless of how long it took him to get there. Some of the cars may only be driven 1-2k a year. I think he had around 14 cars, so it would be too much to change the oil on all them annually. I do an annual service even though I drive about 4K a year. Good to have the car on the lift and given a once over inspection.

I am about 3K a year and change the oil on the yearly anniversary. So, for me it's the time not the miles.

Was on another popular car site where there was a big discussion about how many miles between oil changes. There are so many "old school" mindsets out there that still do things like their fathers taught them in 1953. Like changing oil every 500 miles, or 1000 miles, etc. Since the "old days" every technology has changed/improved including oil products, metals used for rotating parts in ICEs, etc.

For those still thinking there is some advantage in bypassing mfgr's oil change recommendations, including the first change and choosing short intervals, I challenged that group to show any evidence, any chatter out there about oil related engines lost because one followed the mfgr's recommendations....or engines that made some ridiculous lifetime miles because one chose to do 500 mile oil changes, etc. The only info on the net about the "dangers" of missing oil changes or being late comes from Service shops selling oil changes or oil companies selling oil.

I don't believe synthetic oil suffers from the moisture issues that were inherent in traditional oil.

Here's a recent article with Blackstone's input.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/motor-...-mileage-study

Even so, really depends on how hard the miles are driven.
