Good info re: lubrication of our convert tops (from Webasto Sunroofs)
Quote: As we know from our experience that the main element that requires light, regular oiling are aluminum side sliding channels
This prevents excessive wear and scratching of aluminum profiles, which may develop scratches without lubrication. These places are exposed to weather conditions, so it is important to oil them.
The remaining elements requiring oiling are located in the roof closing mechanism, they are oiled when assembling the mechanism, and in case of problems with the smooth closing/opening of the handle, professional intervention is required.
I hope my help is useful, If You Sir need more informations do not hesitate to ask. (from Ella)
NOTE: I did this yesterday and there are 2 aluminum struts towards the rear of the car. I lubed (small! amount) each one, as well as 4 hinge pivot-points. Pretty sure it had never been done - 14 YO car.

Are you confusing lubrication of Sunroof slides with hydraulic rams for the operation of the Roadster top mechanism?
I would be leery of putting oil on the hydraulic rams as it could attract debris and work into the seals. Same with the pivot points, use a silicone based or dry lube so it doesn't stain headliner or interior panels.

Jay W U - appreciate your response and I think you are right, tho' my post was a paste directly from the folks that make it....my initial email that I did not include, specifically mentioned the Roadster, not a sunroof car - your experience and insights are greatly appreciated by the Forum, IMHO.
