2009 V8 Vantage - door and rear hatch struts starting to fail... again...

anyone had luck with aftermarket struts? maybe even with some more force?

these OEM ones only lasted about 3 or 4 years...

I have some on my BMWs that have lasted 10 plus years...

On my DB11, the door struts and the boot struts were worn out.

Purchased the door struts from Redpants and they worked/still work fine, over two years now.

On the trunk struts, I spent some time comparing the originals to struts available on one of the popular sites that sell by the size (length/travel), pressure. and end connectors. I got close the first time but not enough pressure. The second time I ended up over pressure making the trunk a little hard to close (trunk is a soft close so only need to get it close to the latch). After two years now, these are still working and getting lighter for the close as they wear. In this case, I ended up buying twice with one set that didn't work but cheap enough it really didn't matter to me.

I recently installed a pair from LIftSupportsDepot on the doors and hood of my 2014 DB9. They installed without any issue but they have more force. Instead of holding the door at "nearly" any position like OEM, when I open the door close to half way, the pressure wants to open the door fully. Better than what I had as the originals no longer held. I've been wanting to contact Liftsupports though and get there opinion.

I got some off ebay, definitely stronger than OEM ones as you need to check your surroundings as to not do any damage.
$50 for the pair.

Hatch Struts: Boxi 6393
Installed a set of these on my 2009 V8V and they work better than the Aston units.
Boxi has door strut units too.

The biggest downer on the cheap struts is they're black. I think the minimum requirement for me would be for the tubes to be silver. I know it's a small thing, but it really makes things feel more special. I managed to find a set of silver trunk struts a while back for small discount over the factory ones. They're easily mistakable for the originals as they're only missing the AM light-blue printing. Unfortunately I'd peeled the labels off of them so there's no indication where they came from. I'll look a bit for the order and update if I find them.

(edit) The struts were also from Lift Supports Depot. That's the same manufacturer as the same as the amazon link above. The part number for the DB9 coupe silver trunk struts is PM3847-a. $36 for a pair on Amazon. LSD makes them for all positions of our cars. The Aston struts have a slightly brighter polish, but if you weren't holding them side by side you'd never know they were aftermarket.
