'06 S4 First gear engagement problems
'06 S4 First gear engagement problems
What's up guys... My brother in law owns the car. He finds it very difficult to put the car into first gear after sitting at a stoplight in neutral, have to push very hard to engage.
He took it to the dealer and they called it normal. The shop foreman said the earlier S4's had poor syncros and therefore Audi was replacing a lot of gearboxes. To alleviate this problem, Audi re-designed it to have more square cuts gears but now is a handful to put into 1st and 2nd.
My question is, does anyone else have this "normal" problem or does this seem like a bunch of BS and they don't want to fix the car.
Thanks ahead of time, Roc

Steve Kojasevic mentioned in his post that he has a similar problem. BUT he did also mention that this problem should be covered under warranty. Why don't you try talking to him to get some more insight.
So it seems the general con-census is that the dealer is probably not interested in pursuing further, correct? I don't think it's right...
The car is still under warranty so it seems like a no brainer to me

I had the same problem with my '05 when it was new. It was some kind of alignment with the shifter or shift gate. It was a simple fix, they just re-aligned the shifter. I'm not that mechanical, so I don't remember exactly. My dealer fixed it under warranty.
