Thnking about a '07 S6...opinion?

I'm thinking about selling my '04 996 C4S for an '07 S6 (three small kids, need more space, the usual reasons, etc. etc). I test drove one last week.

What is your opinion on the S6? It seems like they're taking a pretty big depreciation hit (several '07 examples with <$60k asking prices (some CPO). The best I can do on an '08 is 6% off MSRP (via the Audi Supplier Program). Still, that puts the '08 at $76k new.

Any things in particular to be mindful when looking at these cars? Also, does anyone have access to the maintenance schedule / intervals (I searched), so I can double check on the service records as I dig into specific cars.

For those who have a S6, how are you liking yours?

Finally, I drove the RS4 and it's truly fantastic...just not big enough. If I decide to move away from the Porsche it'll be to get some real space.

Thanks much.

I would just be sure to check out an '07 M5 first. '06's are creeping into the high $50's right now.

I think it's a beatiful and rare car.

I do think the price is a bit steep, but if you go used as you mentioned it's a great buy. With the V10 in there, I would make sure it's a CPO car.

M5? No thanks. Just butt ugly IMO.

I got my wife an 08 S6 a few months back and it is an awsome car. We got hers new for 71K and it's loaded. The car drives and sounds awsome. Have you driven one yet? Oh and plenty of room for the kids. If you haven't driven one make sure you drive it in the manual/sport mode. I have a TT Porsche modded to around 550 AWHP and the S6 is still fun for me to drive! Good luck.

Thanks, guys. AWD is a priority for me, so the M5 is a non-starter.

JWC - appreciate your comments. I did drive one last week and was pretty amazed. thanks for sharing your price on an '08. I'm debating between an '07 and '08 (btw, any real changes year to year?). The '07 would be CPO pushing the warranty out to 6 yrs / 100k miles and is obviously less expensive.

Other opinions / thoughts are appreciated.

Sammytown.

CPO def a better deal, sounds like, since you found one already. service intervals are 1st service at 5K or 6mo, then every 10K or 1yr. the 1st service is free from Audi. be sure and check and see if it has the Audi care service plan, as it takes care of the service intervals due during the warranty period. if not, you can get it if it has been in service less than 12 months or 12K miles. also, 6% off via the supplier program deal is VERY strong. 08' models only have about 6.8% markup, after ad fees and prep costs, with no holdback.

I was told by the dealer the 07 and 08's are the same. I was also told that the mark up's are small as Dustin said. They aren't cheap but IMO they are worth the asking price. I mean you get 4 doors, great seats, 438 hp motor, AWD, great drive feel, amazing interior, strong body lines, and a very soild safe car (for transporting the ones you love). I would take one over the BMW any day. Heck we traded in her 525 for one. It's twice the car in terms of price over a V6 Camary or Accord and worth it IMHO.

Dustin - Thanks for the additional info on markups, etc. The local dealer (Barrier) says that 6% off MSRP is extremely competitive (but, of course, it's they're job to tell me that). also appreciate the info on service intervals.

JWC - thanks for sharing your thoughts as well. I agree it's a sweet car and I love the sleeper aspect of it.

thanks for the input guys.

I see you are in washington. There is nothing that will beat Quattro in the snow. I have a '96 40th Edition land cruiser with locking diffs and 35" BFG all-terrains. However, last year when it was snowing (no snow yet this year) i felt much much safer and more in control driving my mom's old '06 S4 cab.

There is nothing worth more than the safety of your family.

Hey Sammytown do you want a high performance 4 door sedan or do you want a 4door family mobile?
The S6 is a dog w/ two broken legs compared to the E60 M5.
If you are dead set on AWD then by all means go for the S6. If you have the fire in you for performance the S6 will disappoint. I do not mean to be blunt but its the truth. You'd be happy w/ the M5. Here are a few pics,

I have 3 boys (8, 10 and 12) I have the room and they love Daddy's fast car. The M5 is a beast, w/ 1/4 mile run of 11.56 sec and 126 mph trap

No S6 is even capable of this. My friend buy what makes you happy.

Cheers, GT3Ranger

As a dd, S6 hands down. I've driven both the M5 and S6, and for daily, reliable family use in the northwest, the S6 wins easily. The M5 is more fun, but not good in rough weather and that dang smg breaks constaaaaaaaantly.

Hey Rodney3211 there have SMG problems but all resolved. My M5 put down 581 rwhp on last dyno and the SMG, diff and axles are all stock. Not a hiccup by the car. The problem is traction. Putting the ponies on the asphalt is a an issue. You have a misconception of the SMG.
BTW the M5 is a DD even w/ all the mods.

Cheers man, to each his own
