New S4 is getting a blown V6???
Was just browsing and stumbled onto this...

I don't know, it's kinda weird. Seems like everyone else is bumping displacement up in these cars, then Audi comes along and drops 2 cylinders for their next generation. How many that buy an S4 get it for the fuel economy?
Ah well, they say it will be a better performer, and if that's the case, the economic benefits will just be a big fat bonus!
What's next? A diesel R8? Oh wait, they already did that

Don't know if that's a good idea. If you're not a tuner, a nice big displacement 8 beats a blown 6 IMO. I love the V8 in my S4. It has so much torque that you rarely need to shift if you're lazy. It's really a great engine. Yes, it sucks up the gas like crazy, but that's the price you pay I guess. I thought the next S4 would stick with a V8 with #'s in RS4 territory. This came out of left field it seems.
I think its a great move. The new car will be slightly faster and get better mileage, and for tuners its going to kill the RS4 once they get some mods for it. Seems like wins are all around. V8's are great but with gas prices they will eventually be a complete luxury. I'm sure with modern technology the new engine will have minimal lag and lots of torque.
i have a b7 s4 and i dont care how much gas it guzzles but the problem is there are not alot of modification you can do to it so if the new s4 is a twin turbo i will trade my b7 s4 for it but if it is something else i will DEFINITELY BUY A NISSAN GTR

S4's have always had boost prior to the B6+.
Audi strayed from the truth for a while, lets hope they come home to the Way of Boost.
maybe they just want to be different from the competitors. probably better move for Audi if their V8 is heavier but can't out-perform rivals V8. turbo would give them the advantage.
The turbo will also make it a better match for the 335i which it is competing directly against.
That's part of the reason they made the change. Too many people blowing their turbos with higher boost, then getting them paid for under warranty. Less tunable = less money out of Audi's pockets. If you're leaving the car stock, the V8 is infinitely better. I've had a B5 S4, and now have a B6. There is absolutely no comparison.

I'm glad they are going back to boost. My S4 isn't much slower than the V8 S4 and gas mileage is quite nice.....usually see 23 combined.
People you are forgetting that the First RS4 was a V6 Twin Turbo and when Audi made that Car it kick many cars, and when Tuner tuned it,its was like a EVO because high bhp was attainable and Its was lighter. Also the BMW 335I which is selling like hot cake, is a turbo,my guess is Audi wants some of tht for the next S4/S5.
