4.2 V8 forced induction ??

I do not understand why a US tuner will not grow a set a build a forced induction system for the 4.2 V8 and the 4.2 FSI V8. MTM looks to be using the same setup on both the RS4 and S4 other than small difference in the intake manifold and programing between the two because the FSI is direct and the S4 still mixes the A/F just before the cylinder. How many S4's have been produced since 2003?? along with RS4's, A8 FSI and A6 FSI and not to mention the Q7 FSI ans the new S5. That is six cars that all share the 4.2 V8 platform. Tuners go crazy over a BMW motor that only goes into one make and model. There is a lot of money out there to be made but no one wants to claim it. APR, PES, AWE, EVO-MS............ where are you??

Cause its gonna cost to much... There is already the MTM SC but it costs like 15k.
There are a couple of guys working (at least were working) on putting a turbo.
There is one b6 s4 in Europe with turbos, was desgined for a mountain climb race.

I thought the MTM SC systems for 4.2L are running in the neighborhood of 28000 euros aka $40000 If it was 15K US
I would buy a system fairly soon. They numbers I have heard was for an S5 but as the systems aren't much different for any of the 4.2L I assume not that much of a price difference. I think it should be totally possible the make a SC system for the 4.2L for way less then the MTM prices.
I think the question for the US guys that do this if how many systems they need to sell for it to be worth the development.

A long time ago I spoke with APR a couple of times about a SC'er for the RS4. I was told that it was on their back , back burner. Since then another talk states the darn thing has fallen off the stove top.
MTM's SC'er is way too much money ($30K last I knew). Anything from MTM is in megabucks.
Down here in So. Florida there are several E46 M3's with the Active Autowerke SC'er and me with the RS4. These guys would eat my lunch, period end! In that car class the RS4 needs help in the aftermarket world.

Sadly I do not think any help is coming. Nobody wants to take on the R&D and project. This even with the many vehicle models Audi has with this engine.

Cheers, GT3Ranger

I would love to see a Lysholm based kit for my S5, just wonder who would R&D for one. If it came out for $10-15K
I would think there is a lot of Audi 4.2L owners that would spring for it. 500 plus horse in my S5 would be nice.

Sign me up if you do ever hear of a kit being released! I'm a fellow 4.2L owner ('08 RS4).

At the risk of being flamed, I will add my $.02.

Even though the 4.2 is in a lot of vehicles, BMW probably sells far more m3's than they do rs4's.

Also, Audi has a reputation among the car enthusiasts of being soft and not race-focused. I guess that its possible that many (maybe most) Audi owners don't consider speed/power as their primary decision criteria. Therefore, maybe the bulk of Audi owners are not interested with after-market parts.

Who knows though. I can't wait to trade in my 540 for the S5 I have on order.

I would agree that BMW sells more m3's than RS4's. That is why I was stating that 6 different Audi cars use the 4.2L V8. The m5 and the m6 share the V10 but the only car that will get the M3 motor will be the M3 and maybe the M coupe.

I have been looking into the Eaton TVS SC for our cars. I heard that the new S4 will have an eaton TVS SC in it along with the new ZR1 and the ford gt-500. It is a new 4 lobe rotor unit.

It's been several years and our joint supercharger project with VF is actually is the final development stages, with an end of summer anticipated public release.

However, the kit will be for the non-FSI 4.2 V8 only, as found in the B6 and B7 S4.

The high pressure pumps found on the FSI 4.2 means a redesign of the intake manifold at the very least. Given the low profile hood on the S5, serious redesign is needed to take that into account, too.

But reworking things for FSI and S5 hoods "should" not be as much work as the initial kit design. "Should" is the operative word.

The non-FSI kit will retail around $9k plus install, and is estimated at 450 crank hp on pump fuel and stock internals.

The 4.2 liter V8s are far more different than the OP says, btw. The only real thing the S4, S5, RS4, and other model engines have in common are their displacement.
For example, the S4 is non-FSI, the S5 is FSI, but NOT high rev. The RS4 is high rev. High revving makes the engine built completely different with stronger and lighter parts.

MTM superchargers continue to go up in price because of the dollar strength going down. in euros the price is consstant. Also, it covers some weird Euro insurance type thing that USA has no benefit of but has to pay for anyway.

I agree with those here that it just isn't worth it to produce a kit for a relatively expensive and low-production vehicle that many people won't modify (at least not until the warranties have expired). I applaud those tuners that are willing to hang it all out there for a few years. It'll probably take that long to recoupe development costs. I think the target of 450 crank hp for $11k (installed) is a hard sell. That's 110hp over stock with is about 70awhp, right? My Magnuson supercharger added about 170 crank hp (140rwhp/120rwtq) for less than $8k. That's the advantage of pushrod mass-produced motors like the LSx series. Power is cheap. A simple retune for my Cayenne Turbo costs more than my full header back exhaust on the Caddy!!
