Anyone own an A5?

Hey everyone,

I am looking to possibly pick up an A5, my dealer said he will have a loaded sline model in 2 weeks for me. I have not been able to drive one, so I have no idea how they perform or drive. Anyone have any feedback on the A5?

I am trying to make an effort to conserve on gas mileage because I am just so tired of filling the Rover up at the pump. But, if I find out that the daily performance of the A5 is sluggish, maybe I will just buy the S5. Keep in mind, I dont need a sportscar, already have that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently selling my step dad's A5 for him. He is only selling it due to wanting to switch to a 4 door and not any issues he had with the car. He loves the car as a daily driver and didn't feel a need for the s5 after driving this. I have been driving the car for a few weeks now and would have to agree with him. I love the way it drives and feel that it has plenty of power as a daily driver.

The S5 ain't exactly a gas sipper either, so why would you even consider it? The A5 has decent hp...so not sure what sluggish is in your book. I would just wait a couple weeks and test drive it then make your decision.

I know the S5 isnt a gas sipper, but its alot better than the Rover plus I like to mix up the cars every 6-9 months. The reason why I'm inquiring is because I had an A6 (3.2 sline) at my house in Florida in 2006 and I really did not like the power (i thought it was a little underpowered) so I got rid of it. Im hoping this drives a little better for a daily.

I've put down about 450 + miles so I'm still breaking it in but I have come from a 1998 VW Passat 1.8T 5/speed. After 10 years in one car (basic family car), I found the A5 such a nice car to look at and drive, I'm glad I waited 10 years.

The steering on the streets is great, just like any car in urban traffic; you're not stressed making turns (unlike my replica sports car). But at speeds like 35mph and above, the steering firms up and road feel is very good. I'd really like to take it on a track to get more feel of the steering at high-speeds but for now, I like the feel of the steering.

As far as mileage, I'm averaging about 17mpg, with 85% street, 15% freeway on any given day. I use it to haul computer equipment once in a while for a company that has 40 + buidling down here in San Jose, CA/Milpitas, CA. I've compared the computer mileage to actual receipt and so far, it seems to be correct (dealer put the first tank in but didn't reset the trip so I can only go off my first actual fillup.)

Given the benefit of the doubt, I've seen 25mpg on 12 mile round trip 95% freeway. It shows a 27mpg on the sticker but I'm also hearing 30mpg from some on Audiworld.com but their octane ratings may be higher since CA only gets' 91. I totally expect 27+mpg on mostly freeway and will have a chance to test it out since I'm scheduled for the Audi A4 Driving Experience at Infineon Raceway at Sonoma, CA. I beleive it's a good 75 miles one way so I'll have a lot of time on the freeway to prove or disprove the milage and the car should hit close to 1,000 miles by 7/18. Timing wise, I'd rather change the oil but I'll wait for the first service interval and trust my Audi dealer will do it correctly (I've done my own oil all my life so this will be a first!)

Oh, one final thought. I am running 19" "Y" spokes with Dunlop Sport Maxx GT 255/35-ZR-19. A little noisy

I don't own one, but have spent some time in both the A5 3.0Tdi and the S5. The A5 3.0Tdi was the car that impressed me the most of the two. The torq in the engine is unbelivable, and it actually suited a manuell box. I usually preffer auto on a diesel. Not the most fun car I have driven, but nice, comfy and fast enough. Can only imagine how quick a MTM 3,0 TDi with 640nm Torque is!! And thats only with a remap and exhaust.
