Exclamation B8 S4 tuning!

How is Sportec (or any tuning company for that matter) able to get such gains from just a tune and intake? http://www.sportec.ch/page7496.html

I know the gains in my b5 s4 were large with a ecu tune because its easier to increase boost in turbocharged setups, but I *thought* you couldn't realize the same gains with a supercharger unless you swapped pulleys?

If this is the case, are we really looking at near 500hp levels for a pulley, tunes, intake and exhaust?

More power than the B7 RS4 in a lighter car. This is going to be a very interesting car if these power gains are true. I have heard similar claims but don't remember who was claiming them.

If you look at that graph they're really similar until just about 2700RPM where it looks as if the stock software may be capping the power (for reliability, consistency, or whatever.) I mean look at how flat the yellow curve is. So maybe the factory setup is leaving some on the table and the reprogrammed software is utilizing some of the boost that the stock software is diverting. A pully affects the boost, but I'm sure there's gains to be had with playing with the timing and fueling even at stock boost levels too. And with the intake, of course intake and exhaust can be more critical on forced induction cars than NA ones, but I'd be surprised if that was a big difference maker considering how well the stock Audi intakes have done in their past cars. It'd be cool to get an answer from someone who actually knows more about this particular car though.

MTM is using a piggy back, GIAC and many other companies are trying to have a performance file to re write the ECU. ON this car you can control the supercharger pressure and the gains will be very noticeable. AWE is working on the exhaust as well and hopefully we can have everything ready. Our car had Bilstein coilover with ride control and feels very good.

I'm sure Garret and the boys at APR will have it cracked soon enough. I love how my s4 opened up with a GIAC flash. Good to know there is power left in the charger.

Keep us posted on the exhaust and tune development.

Still confused on how you can control the boost on this s/c with a tune? Let alone with those massive gains that are more akin to a turbo motor? This s/c seems to defy the laws of s/c'gers lol

Sportec is a phenomenal tuner however we do not get to see much of their outstanding work over here in the states. In 2005 I had a chance to visit them in Switzerland when my buddy was the US importer and they are way ahead of the tuning curve however market themselves more as a "Couture "/ " "boutique" type tuner. As you can see by there pricing, they are very expensive however they do put out an amazing product.

Im assuming and this is with fairly limited knowlage of the sc system that is used in the s4 that they are just changing the point where the ecu dumps extra boost back into the intake track to a higher level and adds more fuel. essentially the diverter valve is opened later allowing more boost. more boost=more power as long as you have fuel. i think it is pretty much the same set up as a turbo interms of boost control minus the wastegate setup on a turbo.

again this is just based on my basic understanding of this system. ask me how you do it in a 1.8t or a 2.0t and i got the whole picture. the 3.0t is still a bit of a mystery to me. i do hope these gains are real and apr and giac have files soon as the s4 is my next car and 400+ hp make it just that much better.

"Dynapack dynometer puts the new Audi S4 at a stunning 330.67 AWHP and 336.09 AWTQ (after SAE correction). These numbers are at the wheels, not crank (which is what is used to advertise). This is the average of 6 different pulls not just the peak numbers achieved."

it starts with more power than most think to start with I could believe 431 with a chip

From what I have heard, there is currently nothing out there besides piggy backs. The piggy backs have been gaining about 30 rwhp over stock, however this is still not a true tune.

yes they are finding that the car has been under rated giving tuners a little head start. I just test drove one and can assure you it is making great power. I just traded my c63 in for the Q5 for the wife and instead of buying the new w2010 c63 I have decided on the S4 for me...
