Lemme start off by saying I loved my S5 before last night. It isn't super fast, but it handles great and definitely looks good. Well after last night I no longer want it. The S4 is a whole different animal. Handles better, accelerates better and with the Stronic it is just so damn fun to drive. I've never been so blown away with a car, and I've driven a 997 Turbo and a GT-R plus other Supercars....see the thing with this car is, you wouldn't ever expect a 4,000 pound AWD sedan to do the things that this car is capable of. It matched and beat every twisty turn my S5 which has a wider tire set up, and a rear sway bar. The thing just keeps pulling. I absolutely love this car, and I think everyone considering a nice daily should look into it. I'm going into Audi today and see what they'd want on a prestige S4 with Stronic gear box.

Jon, tell Audi to hurry up and put the s4 engine in the s5 already!! IF they do, I'll meet you at the dealership with cash in hand.

In a way, yes. Obviously those cars will produce better numbers in everything, but the fact that this 4,000lb Audi felt so good to drive, and so nimble had me more impressed than those "race inspired" cars. Granted the GTR is one heavy pig of a car its still an 80k racer, and very good at it. The S4 just felt amazing through everything I put it through, definitely wasn't expecting it to be so good.

I agree the S4 is very unique. Its fast, fun to drive but can also be quite unassuming, comfortable and docile when it wants to be. To the normal person its just a regular automatic audi until... you stomp on it.

I have been really happy with mine!

I got a ride along in an APR chipped one last weekend driven by Aaron Provoledo (grand am driver for APR).

The car really surprise me with how fun it was, looks like Audi decided to make a more neutral car unlike the early 2000 garbage.

The S5 Cabriolet comes with the S4's supercharged 6-cylinder engine.

Yeah, I have no interest in a cab.

And with the prices on the used market, the m3 (although different) is definitely an option to consider. Right Jon??

the B8 S4 is really turning heads. Makes about 350-360hp STOCK...and closer to 400 tuned. Pretty awesome from a $46,900 car. Add stronic, leather seats, NAV and you're at $51,000 for a real serious piece of machinery. Should stand up to an RS4 and tuned will stand up to an R8. Pretty crazy from just a tune.

Engine bleeds off boost from 5000rpm...resulting in a drop from around 12psi to 5. That means hp numbers actually fall off from 5000 to redline. The tunes (APR/STASIS/MTM/ABT) just seem to eliminate the boost restriction and let it run 12PSI to redline. Bumps power up nicely.

Evidence of the trickery is the fact that Audi is using this powerplant (3.0 V6 with TVS1320 supercharger) in a few cars making various peak hp levels (advertised)

S4 - 333hp
S5 - 333hp
Q7 - 270hp
Q7 - 300hp
A6 - 300hp

Cayenne will also use it...making 370hp

Exactly...they even got 400hp out of the same engine in their Q5 sport concept thing (forgot the actual name of it).

I'm glad Audi got back to it's roots in a way offering a FI S4, that is nimble and agile despite its big sedan profile.
