Rolex 24

Looks like the R8s did not fair well at the Rolex 24. Any ideas or comments as to why not. I like the Porsche and all but come on no other GTs to come and challenge?

Quite a few challengers but the 911's finished 1-2-3 in GT. Here are some pictures from the race.

i think the R8 is quite a new car for many teams abroad, that may explain it. the 911 is a racing dinosaur in the U.S. i think the U.S. R8 teams have to make some more experiences before being really sucessful.

This makes sense to me. I hope Audi makes a better showing in the future.

The Audis were complete crap. Clutch problems all around, the highest finishing one was 30th something I want to say. Supposedly the clutch does not like the Grand-Am car since in Europe the cars run TC and in GA they don't.

Obviously when it gets sorted they I would imagine can give everyone a run for their money. Porsche finished 1-2-3 at the 24 in GT.

This is the first time these cars have been run in the USA. The engines were highly restricted by all accounts and unbelievably the teams were forced to use OEM clutches!!! In a 24 hour race for God's sake!!! If a racing clutch had been allowed, the engines not choked down so much, and the two teams had any experience with the car, the results could have been very different. I say well done and hope to see them in the near future. Certainly on looks alone the car's a winner.

Don't get me wrong I like Audi and own a new A7(wifes car) but did the Porsches not run an OEM clutch? Maybe Audi needs better clutch building. Since they are all German based this should not take long.? Do you think the Quatro drive was an asset or liability? I would expect it to be helpful on a road course but may be harder on the clutch. You would think the V10 motor would be up to the challenge?

I'd love to see an R8 smoke some 911s.

Are they even still AWD?

From what I heard the clutches were burning up because they don't have traction control.

I just assumed the were AWD. If they had to run the OEM clutch then why would the whole final drive be allowed to change? Maybe they burned out because they were just plain weak? if so is the clutch in you street R8 going to fail after a year of sport driving? Hope not.

They're RWD because rules don't allow AWD.

I don't know about the clutch deal, but I would assume being an OEM clutch and made to work with traction control, racing is without traction control would cause faster wear.

The V10 sounds way better, however in racing that doesn`t matter, does it?!
The V10 is heavier, more thirsty and less race proven than a 911.
In fact, i was pretty surprised that the R8s are so successful over here in europe, cause letīs be honest, the 911 race package (bullet proof flat 6, much lighter, endless rear axle grip, over 50 years of experience) is almost unbeatable.

Well my ignorance has been well exposed, AGAIN! I just love the look and sound of the R8 and want my favorite to be a winner. I might have to concede that the 911 is the track winner but my soul picks Audi.

Now if Ford could make winning vehicle for the road???? My F250 Super Duty Sucks. If I had not just bought an A7 and Bentley GTC then I would be dumping this POS.
