Am I asking too much for my RS4?
#16
I'll give you another perspective. You may be targeting someone who REALLY wants a RS4 and will not consider the competition, in this case your car has the unique combination of reasonable miles, color, CPO. But if you're targeting buyers who are also looking at C63 AMG and M3s, your price is just way too high in respect to age of the car.
Non-CPO 2008 M3s are in the low $40k, with CPO (+1.5 years) , they're in the mid-40s. C63s will move in the mid-high $40ks with comparable miles. Differences aside in these cars, if you really want to move the car, you should target $43k range.
I was in the market in 2010 for a 07 or 08 RS4. I bought my 08 M3 with 8000 miles for $46k cash, no trade. I recall a comparable RS4 was in the mid-$50k range, I love the RS4, but not $10k more, given the M3s were almost 100% comparably better or equal in respect to objective technical and subjective features. Even if i found a 2007 RS4 for $46k with 8k miles, I would still offer a price of $45k back then, b/c of the need for carbon build-up cleaning. And this is all in 2010 too... Just my 2 cents.

I agree with the majority of other posters that say $45k is what you should expect to get and what you should list it for to get the most potential buyers to contact you. The CPO warranty adds a bit of value otherwise I'd say $43-44k.
Why are you selling it so soon after buying it? I know you said you're looking at going back to school, but didn't you know that when you bought it 6 months ago?
I've sold many cars on the internet over the last 15 years and almost all of them have been sold through cars.com. I've tried a lot of other sites including autotrader, ebay, and others, but cars.com has been where the most potential buyers contact me through, and where I've sold almost all of them eventually. These have ranged from high dollar Porsches to VWs to Mercs among other cars.

yes
here's some recent manheim data to give you an idea.
2007's
Date Auction Sale Type Price Odometer Cond Color
02/10/12 PA Regular $28,000 85,464 Below BLACK
02/15/12 PHOENIX Regular $39,000 50,518 Avg BLACK
02/23/12 NEWENGLD Regular $33,500 65,843 Avg BLACK
03/07/12 PALM BCH Regular $39,400 43,630 Avg GRAY
03/28/12 ATLANTA Regular $36,400 57,120 Avg BLACK
03/29/12 PA Lease $35,000 56,409 Avg BLACK
the warranty is nice (for 1.5 years) but that's worth maybe $2000 in the open market...and on a used car, it's worth maybe an extra $1000 to your price.
I think you're looking at something within a stone's throw of $40,000. Might be $41,000. Might be $39,000.
p.s. don't price your car based on 'asking prices'...and don't assume you're 'fairly priced' because you're in there with other 'asking prices'. As your own car shows, at $50,000 vs. what these cars are actually selling for (the auctions plus the comments in the thread on what they've sold for), asking prices prove only that ink sticks to paper.

Well, there you go, Manheim auction prices don't lie. Those are prices dealers are buying and selling those cars at dealer-only auctions...I suspected 40k mile RS4s were in high $30k range, that's what similar M3s were selling at.

thanks guys, I know Im on the higher end of the asking prices and part of it is because I know Ill get low balled, im not super firm on this price. one just came up for sale on the other side of WA with close to the same mileage but no warranty at a dealer and they are asking 50 also.
When I was looking to buy an RS4 last year though I didnt find any in the low 40's all of them that had low mileage and had clean titles were in the 50's

private sale is also the most money you will get since no one will low ball you more than a dealer.
finally, leave emotion out of it. if you paid $52K for a used RS4 with low-midlevel mileage on it, you overpaid. not a judgement, just a financial fact. if you keep it for 4 years, it won't matter much, but to try and turn it around a few months later and still expect dealer level prices (even with a CPO) is a bit much.
my advice, look up the manheim (or request them here) for a good grade RS4 with that many miles on it. That's your floor, accept no less. Look at the cars.com and auto trader and ebay motors SOLD prices. That's your ceiling. Take a few hundred to $1000 off to get the sale done, and move on to the next endeavor

And I dont mind dropping back down to an evo, Im young, most guys my age would love to have an evo or sti.
I realize now I overpaid for my car, just seems like since last year they took a big hit.
But ya there is no way in hell id sell for 40, call me stubborn but I dont think I could stomach taking that big of a loss. Im trying to change where my money goes, instead of having nice cars, trying to keep more of it in the bank

here is my ad on the forums for it: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-warranty.html
Its all stock, 2007 with 39,5xx miles and has a CPO warranty on the car for another year and a half almost. Only things done to the car were lojack and clear bra.
Im currently asking 50k, when I had it up for sale I had a hard time finding low mile RS4's and almost none had a warranty on them. Most that were on the cheaper end(39-43k) all had really miles and/or accidents on record.

If you google "audi rs4 for sale" we come up on the top of the 1st page.
