Bye Bye M3
Bye Bye M3
I just negotiated a price for a very clean 2003 RS6 which takes me back to Audi. I had a B6 S4 and a B7 RS4 (both black on black) for about 6 years and got the itch to go in a different direction. I found the M3 with 16K miles and thought it would be fun to try for a while...after 6 months, I've decided that I need a lot more torque. The M3 is great if driven on the track, but extremely boring on the highway which is where most of my driving is.
Has anyone driven both the RS4 and RS6 as a daily driver? I know they are totally different, but looking for some feedback on specific differences.
The RS6 that I'm getting has a REVO Stage 2 Tune, MTM Diverters, Milltek Resonated Exhaust, Ohlins suspension and 2 years of Platinum Warranty.
I plan to clean up the seats a little (they're not bad but could use a freshening), and to go aftermarket stereo/sat nav.
Thoughts?

i think the biggest advantage of the RS6s are the Turbos, so that you can easily squeeze out lots of HP and Torque.
The M3 or the RS4 are nice cars, but if you want significantly more power you have will to invest whole lot of money cause they are NA.
MTM, Ohlins, Milltek etc. are all good companies, so looks like a good offer.
monty, that's a cool car. I think more of us need to own the RS6.
p.s. take it to the dragstrip. It'll be funny to see the looks on people's faces when you blast off with that awesome noise (and produce solid runs to boot)

Thanks for all of the replys. One of the reasons I love audis is the rarity. The amg and ///m cars are littered all over the place. I literally saw a 60+ year old woman drive the c63 last night 5 below the speed limit on 95 last night.
The car gets shipped today. While I know it is not an RS4, I'm definitely excited.

Its definitely not every day you see an RS6. I'm a big fan of these cars! The low end grunt is impressive especially with the quattro. There's so much grip! I think you will be more than satisfied once you chip it too!
Congrats!

I would caution you that you should never cheap out on parts. Having the right components and a shop/tuner (if you have one near you) is a huge thing. Cars of that age will require maint, but with the proper preventative steps, you'll have a great car that will oblerate anything on the road, will put a smile on your face everytime you climb into the captain's chair, and will be rarer than any AMG dime-a-dozen 4 door coupe.
Enjoy and congrats!
Love the rs6. Unfortunately costly to maintain. Get ready for timing belt replacements! I would have loved to get one. But decided on a c55 Amg. Still have my allroad and a3 though! Just make sure you keep oil changed and read that warranty contract very well! Congrats!
So now I have been driving the car for a couple of weeks now. Unlike the M3, and very much LIKE the RS4, I cannot wait to fire the car up in the morning.
It sounds incredible, and the torque is super addictive.
At first I was worried about buying a 9 year old car, but when you find a clean one, you actually appreciate the fact that it is even more rare given its age.
Its pointless to compare the RS4 and the RS6 because they are totally different implementations and the power deliver is so different. Both are beautiful machines in their own right. For now, I am absolutely loving the RS6 as my first big block turbo.
Last night I was on an open stretch of highway when a F430 blows by me...I said what the heck and stomped on it. I was on her within a few seconds with momentum to make a clear pass but decided I didn't want to end up in jail.Once we got to some traffic and I pulled up next to the guy, the guy driving looked at my car very surprised it was a 4,000 pound "A6"...
Frankly, I was surprised myself how effortless it was to catch up...the top end speed on this car is amazing. If I had a little more courage and a safer road, I wouldn't have been surprised if the F430 was in my rearview mirror at some point...

Mod #1, get a V1.
Not saying that you should drive like an idiot, but on a warm clear summer night with an open highway, you're right foot may find itself ontop of your accelerator pedal all too often. As I'm sure you've noticed by now, big block twin-turbos tend make the speedo cross the tripple-digit mark all to easy, thus the V1 is a great tool to have.
