I think both are the same...
AMG uses the term 'biturbo' on their CL and SL 65 which really is a 'twin turbocharged' V12...
Not sure on the Audi though...I know the new RS6 is a twin turbo...

hmm thanks for the reply. I got a guy telling me that Audi told him that the 2.7T motor is 1 turbo, with 2 turbines inside it..

I'm just scratching my head here..

if i think it through it makes sense, i mean isnt 250hp from a 2.7L V6 TT rather low? we got normally asparated 3.2 6cyl motors making 270hp, and then Hondas got a 2L 4 making 250hp.

what gives?

Read the first line from this link: S4 Tech specs PDF

The car has 2 turbochargers. Whoever told you that someone from Audi said anything other than that is on something.

hey guys im new here,

but anyway, i believe that the term "bi-turbo" means that there is one smaller turbo and one larger turbo, the point is to reduce lag. the smaller turbo spools quickly and feeds the air to the engine while the larger one spools

this is just a rumor ive heard, i could be wrong

The S4 has 2 turbochargers of equal size.

Absolutely. Twin-turbo and Bi-turbo are the exact same thing. They both mean two seperate turbochargers on one engine.

One turbocharger is composed of one turbine wheel and one compressor wheel. The exhaust gasses spin the turbine which in turn spins the compressor (blades face opposite direction).

There are two different methods of arranging a twin/bi-turbo setup; sequential and parallel. Sequential: one turbo spools before the other. Parallel: both spool at the same time.

Two turbos, same size on the B5 S4, here's an engine cutaway:

A sequential turbocharger system uses 2 turbos of differing size to reduce lag, the term biturbo does not signify whether the system is sequential or not (if both turbos are the same size and spool together then it is known as a parallel turbo system).
