RS4 1/4 time

I ran my car at the track on Saturday afternoon. This was the first time that I have taken the new ride to the track. I made several runs down the track my best time was a 13.235. I was not launching the car super hard, only at about 4000-4700 rpm. My 60-foot time was1.908 and my trap speed was 103.493. I think with a harder launch I could get my 60-foot time near to1.7-1.8. The car also had a full tank of gas and a passenger.

Your problem is your 60ft (like you mentioned) and your trap, which I beleive should be up around 107-108. Try it with no passengers, 1/4 tank of gas, and make sure your shifts are precise and you're not abusing the clutch. I wouldn't think you'd need to launch above 5K to get a great 60ft in an RS4, not sure what's going on.

Yea it was fun. I don't have a ton of track time but I figure that I could get the car closer to the high 11 mark. Playing with the launch tire pressures and running 100 oct in the car. And loosing the 180-pound passenger can always help.

High 11's sounds like a bit of a stretch, but if you can do it, thats awesome. Traps do seem kinda low. Keep us posted if you go again.

Looking at that trap speed, the car should be in the 12's, you wont see 11's in it with out some good modifications. Consistant mid 12's is what you would likely see w/ the car in S mode and a good launch.

Mid 12's with a 103 trap? My E55 trapped 113 and runs mid 12's. I guess its the all wheel drive?

Yea your right I my bad, high 12's. Edmunds quotes a 12.5 and top gear quotes a 12.8. So that means that I need more track time and that I need to launch the car harder, and run 101 oct gas.

I know I'm being persistent about this, but I don't think you need to do a 6K RPM launch. Give it some revs, and quickly off the clutch and explode off the line. Give it enough gas so you don't bog down, but you don't need to abuse the car. Go out to a parking lot and try it 4-5 times to get the hang of it. I think you'll find the "sweet spot" where everything seems to work well.

Loose all the weight you can (passengers, gas, junk in your car, etc.) Make sure your shifts are quick and clean. It will be all about the launch, because the car has the power and grip to give you a high 12 run.

Good luck!

Whatt M5kid said....launching an AWD car is tricky. You need to lose your passenger, ok it was fun to have your buddy with you but now its time to do some drag racing. My 2 cents: Go to the track with 1/8 of a tank of gas. Use 93 octane pump gas, your ECU is stock and cannot adjust for 100. Empty the car of everything, all change, pens, papers, manuals, jack, spare tire etc...everything. Make sure you pop your hood to let your car cool down alot for each run. Turn side veiw mirrors inward. you should be in the 12's soon

I agree with the gas recommendation. If you are not detonating, higher octane fuel does nothing. Not sure if the Audis have normal issues with knock retard in their computers. I know the Turbo buick guys always seem to have problems with it.

Just for a frame of reference.. i had a 88 mustang GT. 227rwhp running slicks ran high 12's(12.85-12.98) regular at 102.5mph with 1.60 60' times at 3280lbs.
So, with a bit better 60' time I dont see you having much trouble getting 12.7-12.8's.
