There are a few here in So Cal that exist, I bet they are run about the same cost I take in depreciation every year from trading cars around.

nice car.
live and learn my friend.
How the hell are you. Come to chicago... got some new things underway
I've often thought of the same thing but there's so many variables involved. In purest terms though you'd swap cars with a friend for a couple months until you/he gets bored and then do it again with someone else.
Great idea, but like someone said, alot of variables involved. If I was just trading w/ someone for a couple months, I'd be leary that would not care for car as I would. i.e. there would have to be an understanding of no track days, so many miles, where to store car, etc. And then, trust would be a concern. What if your car came back w/ door dings or scratches not there before? What if you got it back and it dropped the clutch the following month? Got back with bald tires, etc. The list goes on and on. The only way I could see this working is with a small group...maybe 3-4 people, who were very like minded, responsible and had a simple written agreement/understanding. And even if it worked, which I doubt, what about ownership/insurance in the trading phase? Have damage to your Lambo while out of state in someone else's possession and see how your insurance company goes ape ****. If under your insurance, usually insur. company will require that you are the registered owner. Not a bad concept and Im sure could be done, but devil is in the details like anything else.

Exactly. As far as insurance goes. You are allowed to let anyone borrow your car, and its covered.Originally Posted by Red Devil

i've definitely stayed up late at night playing with this idea... for the enthusiasts, it's really ideal, but the first time something major happens, it's likely the whole thing would fall apart... whether it's an accident, disagreement on whether a dent/ding was there or not, abuse of the vehicle either on a track or in the street... or even just a plain accident. as much as insurance covers stuff, truth of the matter is, the hassle at the end when something happens will over time outweigh the benefits... (for most), but for myself, i'm game. :P

That being said, i'll be in chicago for a race and time attack in the spring. I driving for 2 teams, but we'll have to see...
If I don't recognize you by your screen name, sorry.
ya,I mean I started that dd swap/trade thread and some interesting ideas took from that..but then the mods moved it to OT where it died...another problem is with the inherent value of things and how to take care of potential damage and diminished value claims...
I have heard that the business model of a car club does not do well; failure rate over 50%.

. I am sure it could be done safely and effectively with the correct legal documentation (contractual agreements, etc.) and of course the funds.Quote:

There are at least a couple of these that seem to be doing well.
Partial ownership or 'exotic car club' is a great idea.. I've contemplated a seasonal version - where there would be a northern city and a southern city. During winter months, the cars go south and visa versa.
The smaller the group the better, but IMO, guys who are fronting over $100K are likely to be professionals who understand what 'no dings' means.
Personally, I'd love it.. It's a great alternative to having a bunch of $$ sitting in my garage for 5 months out of the year.. I've been looking to buy a FGT, but the thought of the car's down time is bringing me down.
I don't know how some of you guys with multiple F/P/L cars do it.

I don't know. I can see the benefits but I think I would be a bit too protective. To me it would almost be the same as having a 'girlfriend club' where we all traded girlfriends for a certain amount of time. Wait, actually that does sound like a good idea, LOL

Not really for business .. rather a private club of people here on 6 that have additional cars that they dont mind trading up for some weeks or months or whatever ..... just for a change. I spoke to my insurance agent... there are many ways coverage would still work.
