Best of luck to the OP on your search, Craigslist is perhaps your best bet. Tough times for so many right now.
I think I will. Not sure what this guy's deal is. He hasn't posted anything in over a tear and now he crawls up from under some rock and spews his vitriol. Something going on.
Hey Marc,
I suggest that as the OP you delete this thread and start fresh.
“A strong nation, like a strong person, can afford to be gentle, firm, thoughtful, and restrained. It can afford to extend a helping hand to others. It's a weak nation, like a weak person, that must behave with bluster and boasting and rashness and other signs of insecurity.” - Jimmy Carter
It is possible to find a good 1 or 2 owner, well-maintained, early to mid 1990's Honda Civic for $3,000 to $4,000. They are out there as I have both taken them in on trade and sold them and they have continued to run well with proper maintenance. In this price range typically the A/C doesn't work and it only has a radio, but a mechanically sound drivetrain is all I am concerned with at that price. Anything less than $3,000 or $4,000 and you are going to run into mechanical problems. Yes there may be exceptions to this, but I personally haven't seen one. In this economy I haven't found anyone giving these cars away unless it is to someone else in their own family.

There are a lot of generous people on this board. I've seem members helping each other out with free parts that could have been sold for hundreds. Having said that, there are also a lot of scams over the internet as well. I received E-mail scams weekly in my mailbox, and I am sure that no one wants to be that "idiot" that was trying to do a good deed but was actually scammed. If your friend has a story to tell, then have her come on the board and explain her case. Some members will sympathize with her and some will not. Those who do might just give her a car.
Good luck with the search. Once my friend bought a 94 or 95 Accord for only $400 on craigslist. It ran perfectly fine. Typically Accords in the early 90s go for around 1k here in Chicago; I'm not sure if it's the same is in California/AZ.
