Ok, here it goes:
I have a friend in need who can't make ends meet. She and her husband are working full time and she got in over her head and has now lost her car. she has to be driven by her husband in the car he uses for work and she now can't even get her 15 yo son to his obligations
I'm trying to get a few people she knows together to pool some money to get her any form of reliable transportation so she can keep her sanity and self esteem.
If anyone out there has an old car sitting out front that's totally not being used and either wants to give it away or sell it for a nominal sum it would mean the world to her (and me).I woudl wish it to be something that isn't going to break down in teh near future and cause her to spend money she deosn't have
She lives in Scottsdale but honestly anything between cali and there is fine.
Hopefully someone out there who's been there or knows someone who has will think of her.
Thanks guys
Marc

yeah. CL and other local searches here and in AZ are turning up seriously bad stuff under 1k. i's pointless to get something that needs to be fixed immediately.
her husband uses his car to tow something for his work at 5 am.
anyway. thanks guys. keep suggestions coming and hopefully someone out there will have something

He also is willing to pay something minimum for the car as well. The free was if he was lucky enough to get something like that offered. Just relax man, if you have no interest to offer him a cheap vehicle then don't bother replying with your negativity. He's trying to do good, let him do it, whether or not it happens shouldn't concern you if you don't agree with him.
Good luck trying to help this woman out, you're trying to do a good deed!

That's the direction were going in. Unfortunately most of what's out there looks like it's one bolt away from being junk. Don't want to burden them with something that will need major repair soon.
I keep looking. There's supposedly low income lots somewhere around here. Hoping to get a buddy who knows cars to go this weekend.
Another friend just got a job at Acura so I'm asking him to keep his eyes open for any trade ins.

I'm not understanding why you just dont go buy her a vehicle? There are always nice cheap cars available... 90 Accord or something of that sort??? Not trying to be negative in any way and I truly wish them the best. Times are rough for sure, for many...

Hey Marc,
I suggest that as the OP you delete this thread and start fresh.
“A strong nation, like a strong person, can afford to be gentle, firm, thoughtful, and restrained. It can afford to extend a helping hand to others. It's a weak nation, like a weak person, that must behave with bluster and boasting and rashness and other signs of insecurity.” - Jimmy Carter
It is possible to find a good 1 or 2 owner, well-maintained, early to mid 1990's Honda Civic for $3,000 to $4,000. They are out there as I have both taken them in on trade and sold them and they have continued to run well with proper maintenance. In this price range typically the A/C doesn't work and it only has a radio, but a mechanically sound drivetrain is all I am concerned with at that price. Anything less than $3,000 or $4,000 and you are going to run into mechanical problems. Yes there may be exceptions to this, but I personally haven't seen one. In this economy I haven't found anyone giving these cars away unless it is to someone else in their own family.
