1999 996 C2 upgrades clean car fax - IMS
Year: 1999
Make: Porsche
Model: 911
Price: $14500
Mileage: 108000
Color: Mirage
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (State): IL
Transmission: Manual
Drivetrain: Rear Wheel Drive
I bought the car July 2011. I love the color combination. Boxster red interior. The exterior looks gold (I believe the color is officially Mirage). I replaced the seats with turbo sport seats that are black (see pics) and added the black alcantara headliner from a 2001 with low mileage. The seats are heated. I put new porsche oem brakes (pads, rotors, sensors), air oil separator replaced by VS motorsport because it was leaking, and a brand new air filter from Porsche. I also replaced the bellow on the pop up wing because it was ripped. I also replaced the stock 17" wheels with 18" OZ wheels, 997 shifter, kenwood touchscreen navigation (it also has the factory nav unit and CD changer, which I replaced for updated maps and ipod control), a Gbox for the trans installed June this year. I replace the oil with Mobil 1 0w40 every 4k-5k miles. I will also change it before pickup if buyer requests, as it is coming up on 4k. For suspension, it has a Stanceworks Coilover Kit and Eibach adjustable swaybars.
In April 2013, I replaced the spark plugs with Bosch from Pelican Parts, the spark plug tubes (including orings), two coils that had cracked housings (caused misfire when I did an undercarriage wash, but not when it rained or was wash without undercarriage wash), and a new oil tube and serpentine belt.
In June 2013, I replaced the IMS with LN Eng bearing and the RMS. I also replaced the clutch, flywheel and related parts while I was in there, including the slave cylinder because the boot was torn. I upgraded the lever arm to the 997 design as well. The Transmission fluid from Porsche was also replaced at this time.
The only issue is the brake light is on the dash because a sensor is bad. The pads have plenty of pad left.
The check engine light was also on when the K&N cold air kit was installed. I removed the kit and the check engine light went away.

I bought the passenger buckle from Porsche. The airbag light is no longer an issue. The buckle fixed the problem. The light has been off since I installed the new buckle (see below).

I'm not sure of the ohm number, but the Durametric tool should be able to read the SRS code and tell you the exact issue. In my case I had my indie read the codes which indicated that both latches had bad sensors, I replaced the latches myself and had him reset the code. Did you swap the seats without disconnecting the battery? That will also trigger the code, in which case a reset should take care of it.
Very nice 911 C2. Keep our website in mind if you need more exposure on the car.

I did disconnect the battery, but I have the tool to reset it anyway, so even if I didn't I could have cleared it. The fault code pointed to the passenger buckle, but that could still be wiring or buckle, right? Anyway, I may end up replacing it, so that there are no issues with the car, but as of now the light is on.
As for the website, thank you but I am still undecided on selling the car, so I thought I would put it on the forum and gauge interest first

I fixed the airbag issue the new buckle fixed it. No light or faults now. I just replaced the spark plug tubes and Bosch spark plugs from pelican parts. No issues at the moment. Shoot me am offer if you are interested in this car.
An auto parts store should be able to read the CEL for you if you don't have a code reader. Take a good look at the MAF install into the K&N, if it isn't sealed properly (o-ring seal I think) it will create an air leak leading to the CEL. Also check where the K&N tube meets the throttle body for leaks. It's also possible that the MAF is bad or dirty, you can try hitting it with MAF cleaner to see if that helps. It's a good looking car with some nice additions, I would hate to see people avoid it because of a nonsense CEL.
Thank you for the reply. I actually have the durametric tool to clear codes. I actually replaced the cold air kit with the stock air box last night. The code is gone. I think I will just sell the car without the cold air kit. There is no light (or code in memory) now. I drove it 40 miles today. The code was coming up just idling with the cold air intake, so that was the problem.
