Arrow 2005 Mercedes Benz CL65 AMG Renntech Bi-Turbo V12

Year: 2005
Make: Mercedes-Benz
Model: C-Class
Price: $24000
Mileage: 153489
Color: Black
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (State): VA
Transmission: Automatic
Drivetrain: Rear Wheel Drive

I am selling my 2005 Mercedes Benz CL65 AMG.This is a reliable super car that can be daily driven (and has been). There were only 194 of these models produced worldwide so you are not likely to see another one on the road. Part of the reason for the low production numbers was the sticker price when new was a hefty $181,220. This was the 2nd most expensive car sold my Mercedes Benz at the time, only surpassed by the Mercedes SLR McLaren. You did get a lot for your money as Mercedes loaded this car with more comfort/luxury features that you can think of. This car has everything! From front doors that pull themselves shut to seats that heat, cool and massage. Everything you touch inside the car is either leather, alcantara or wood.

The exterior is just as beautiful with the classic pillarless coupe design that Mercedes is famous for. The road is lit by bi-xenon headlights that light the road better than any other car that I’ve driven. The wheels are multi-piece 19 inch AMG wheels wrapped in 245/40/19 up front and 275/35/19 in the rear. The tires were just replaced and have less than 1,500 miles on them. The ride height is adjustable at the touch of a button. The brakes are massive with 8 piston Brembo calipers and 15.3 inch 2-piece rotors up front and 4 piston Brembo calipers and 14 inch rotors in the rear.

The crown jewel of this car is the engine. It is a 6.0 liter, Bi-turbo V12 putting out 604hp and 738ft/lbs from the factory. That much power makes this heavy luxury car faster than many Ferraris and Lamborghinis. The transmission is a AMG Speedshift Automatic with paddle shifters. This same engine is being used today, virtually unchanged, by Mercedes Benz in the all of their 2015 AMG models with V12 engines. That should say something about the reliability of this engine.

This AMG has been daily driven since new and has not sat in a garage collecting dust. It was used to commute from New York to Washington DC by the previous owner and I have driven it Mercedes Benz Club of America events all over the Southeast.

Since the car has everything from the factory, there were only a few upgrades done over the years. It has a Renntech R1 tune which basically takes off the factory limits that Mercedes puts on the car. Doing this removes the 186mph speed limiter and increases horsepower to 670 and torque to 840ft/lbs. It also has performance air filters to help it breath better and the factory (small) paddle shifters have been upgraded to SLS Gullwing paddle shifters, that are larger and made out of aluminum. Adjustable lowering links and factory Mercedes camber kits were installed to allow the ride height to be customized by the owner.

Fortunately, this car is not hard to work on like it’s exotic Italian competitors may be. Parts are relatively inexpensive with the exception of a couple items like coil packs and front brake rotors. If you use a qualified independent repair shop to do any work that you choose not to do, and if you buy OEM parts from one of the many companies out there, the maintenance costs are pretty reasonable. If you insist on only taking the car to the dealership, you will pay a premium for that. Both coil packs were replaced with the updated (revised part number) coil packs when the spark plugs were replaced last year. A full brake job was done 8,000 miles ago including new 2-piece front rotors and pad and new rotors and pads on the rear.

Thanks for the compliments! I am amazed at how bulletproof this car is. I have not done anything to the engine besides the Renntech tune and K&N air filters.

Awesome car. I love seeing these with miles. Best of luck with the sale - these are one of the fastest highway cars out there.

These cars are notorious for the ABC system failure. It has a hydraulic suspension that is very pricy to replace when it fails. Any issues in regards to this?

No, the Active Body Control has been trouble free for me. The previous owner replaced a line and flushed the fluid in 2011 and I have had no issues.

Good too hear even at that ABC is 5-7k (complete or less if it's just parts) to fix and you are still getting a hell of a lot of car for the money at 24k!
