Wifey's given me permission to spend $15k on a weekend convertible, and I've always liked Porsches. That probably limits me to 996s, since I can't fit in a Boxster, and can't stomach air-cooled maintenance. Cosmetic blemishes are okay, but I'm looking for something mechanically sound with no accidents, aftermarket modifications, or deferred maintenance / repairs.

Other requirements:

- clear title (i.e. no water damage or salvage)
- can pass CA smog
- within 500 miles of San Diego so I can get a PPI

Lots to like about the first car, though it's beige and too far to drive home. The reason I want to stay near California is because we have strict emissions regulations here, and I need assurance that the car will pass our biennial smog test.
