M5s collecting dust!
M5s collecting dust!
Went to the BMW dealer yeterday on Steven's Creek and they had 4 on the lot, seems like they have traded with another dealer (based upon ship to location) to get around "dealer mark-ups".
If there are that many around so early in the cycle, it doesn't seem like they're going to hold the premium for long. They are only asking $10K over sticker (down from $25K).
I guess there is a fire sale coming on the M5 before too long.

My local dealer would not sell me one at list even though I showed them that I could get it else where for that price. They just came back to me and said they could do list now (3 weeks later) on the same car I asked about. In order to return the favor I told them to screw off.
It's just a matter of time that the M5 fever dies down and the supply kicks up driving prices down. I think we'll even see discounts ($500-1500) next year (2006).
Truth is, hi performance sedans do not hold their value because they are still mass produced. Unless production chokes, prices will come down.
Those that took delivery early either paid msrp by ordering early or got raped by the mark up.

It's never a good idea to pay (or charge) over msrp for any car
It creates bad blood between dealer and their customers.
The M5 market will pick up with the introduction of the 6 speed manual.
